Why was Titanic so special? At the time of her construction, Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world. Titanic’s maximum speed was 23 knots (26 MPH)

Final Hours – The Sinking 14th April 11:40pm: The lookouts see an iceberg dead ahead. The iceberg strikes the Titanic on the starboard (right) side of her bow. 11:50pm: Water has poured in and risen to over 4 metres (14 feet, above the bulk heads) in the front part of the ship Midnight: The Captain is told the ship can only stay afloat a couple of hours. 15th April 12:05am: Orders are given to prepare the lifeboats and to gather the passengers on deck 12:25am: Women and children are loaded onto the lifeboats first. The Carpathia 58miles southeast picks up the distress call and heads towards the titanic. 12:45am: First lifeboat with a capacity of 65, is lowered with only 28 people aboard 2:05am: Last lifeboat leaves, with over 1,500 people still aboard 2:20am: The Stern (back of the ship) fills with water and sinks.
