1. The Titanic
The 1912 disaster.

2. The Idea
Bruce J Ismay had an idea to build the biggest, most luxurious ship convoy the world has ever seen. He would call them Titanic, Britannic and Olympic.

3. Construction
The Titanic was started in the famous Belfast shipyard, Harland and Wolff on March 31st It took exactly 1098 days to construct. 2 builders were killed in the process.

4. Bon Voyage!
The RMS Titanic set sail for her maiden voyage on April 10th Hundreds of people saw the ship off from Southampton to New York via Cherbourg and Queenstown.

5. Facilities
The Titanic had shops, a gymnasium, a squash court, a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a restaurant and a cafe although most of these were only for first class.

6. The Sinking
On the early morning of April 15th 1912 the Titanic struck an iceberg. Frederick Fleet was in the crows nest and spotted the iceberg but it was too late. It took 2hours 40minutes to completely sink.

7. The Discovery
The wreck of the Titanic was discovered on September 1st 1985 by Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. It took an astonishing 73 years to find.
