4. Good Timelines… Are sequential (years and events are labeled in correct order!) Are easy to read (neat) because they were PLANNED, drafted, and THEN published! Represent periods of time in a PROPORTIONALLY accurate way Make effective use of color without overdoing it Use blank s p a c e to keep things easy to read: space on borders, space between labels… not… all CRAMMEDtogetherandIMPOSSIBLEtoread!

5. Good Timeline TIPS: Label years of events in parentheses example: (1965) Use a couple colors for a color theme. Use RED only for urgent highlight Fonts: choose 1 and stick with it. Do not use “caps lock” or fonts that are all capital letters– hard for the brain to read!

6. Timeline Symbols Label date of event in parentheses example: (1964)

7. “Lightning Bolts” show a break in time. Use them to replace a span of many years that you cannot fit onto your page.

8. A “Bracket” shows a span of years.

9. Select a couple of colors to establish a nice color theme. Too much color is really BARFY, gets in the WAY of your message, and makes the reader DIZZY! PS: DON’T USE ALL CAPS, EITHER!!!!!

13. 1. The RMS Titanic sails out of Southampton, England on its maiden voyage 2. The RMS Titanic picks on passengers and crew in France and Ireland and then sails out into the Atlantic. People enjoy the luxuries and sail uneventfully. 3. in the afternoon, the crew gets several ice field warnings from other ships. They are ignored. 4. The crow’s nest crew without binoculars spots an iceberg dead a head. They phone the bridge and the officer in charge. First Officer Murdoch orders the board to turn starboard and to reverse the engines. 5. Just when Officer Murdoch thinks all is well, he hears an ominous crunch. 6. The ship’s compartments fill up with water. The Captain orders the distress signal to be sent, and orders women and children to evacuate on the lifeboats. There are not enough lifeboats for passengers, let alone the crew. 7. The lifeboats are loaded, but not all to capacity. The last life boat leaves around 1:55 am. The Titanic is sinking and pitching forward. It was not going to be long before it sank. 8. At approximately 2:20 am the Titanic sunk under the water to its final resting place 2 ½ miles under the surface. 9. The people in the life boats waited on the Carpathia to rescue them, and it came early in the morning. The Carpathia began to rescue the survivors. The ship took the survivors to N.Y. City. Only 713 people survived and over 1500 perished. None of the immigrants coming to America survived.
