Porter Ridge High School’s Rising 9th Grade Registration

Schedule Four by Four Block 90 minute class periods Fall Semester (Aug. – Jan.) – 4 classes Spring Semester (Jan. – June) – 4 classes 90 minute class periods Final Exams in every class the last 5 days of each semester Final Grade is the average of the 3 six week reports cards and final exam grade GPA – Grade Point Average begins

Future Ready Core Graduation Requirements English 4 Credits: I, II, III, IV Math 4 Credits: I, II, III and a 4th Math Course. Science 3 Credits: Earth/Environmental Science, Biology I, and a Physical Science Social Studies 4 Credits: World History, Civics and Economics, and American History I & II, Second Language Not required for graduation. Required to meet MAR (minimum application requirements) for UNC. Health/PE 1 Credit: Health/Physical Education Academic Electives 6 Credits - 2 must be from either Arts, CTE or Second Language and 4 recommended concentration from either CTE, JROTC, Arts, or other academic subject area 6 elective credits from any area Total Credits 28

Exceptional Children Services will be provided for those students with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Transition meetings will be held at PRMS sometime in May. Someone from PRMS will contact you regarding these meetings.

OCCUPATIONAL COURSE OF STUDY (0CS) PROGRAM Curriculum is based on the Future Ready Occupational Course of Study, focusing on daily life skills and workplace training. Students must have an IEP and receive a recommendation from the IEP team. Content courses taught in separate setting. Graduation Requirements include: 28 course credits 600 job-training hours, consisting of school- based, community-based, and competitive employment hours. Completion of a Career Portfolio Collaborate with Vocational Rehabilitation to establish & support vocational goals.

TRANSTITION TO ADULTHOOD (TTA) PROGRAM EC support is in the separate setting. Students require a functional life skills and academic program. Students require job training skills for post- secondary employment (supported employment, sheltered workshops.) Students should be able to navigate the physical transitions of the high school and work place environments.

Teacher Recommendations Students must sign up for the academic level in English, Math, Science and Social Studies they have been recommended for by their current teacher in the online registration system. Under the alert column next to the course it will say “Recommended by the name of your teacher.” Students who want to take a higher level in a course (honors) than they were recommended for will need to have a parent sign a course waiver form. The counselor will enroll them in the higher level course once the waiver is received.

Student signs in to their my.ncedcloud.org account. Then clicks on Student-Lea 900.

5. Once all courses and alternates have been selected scroll to bottom of main page and click submit. If you exit out before clicking submit course requests will not be saved.

Registration Timeline March 9th Student presentation and students receive registration materials March 9th- March 18th Students enter course selections into Power School through student account March 18th Signed registration forms returned to homeroom teacher April 5th – 7th High school counselors meet with 8th grade students to review course selections
