What do I believe? I believe standards are the minimum. Treat every child as if they are my own. Respect everyone for who they are. We are all working towards the same goal: That every child reaches their greatest potential .

Current School-Wide Data NYC School Report – JHS 194 Scored the highest in the Strong Family-Community Ties category Attendance at all time high for the year at 95.6% for 2015-2016 52% of students performing at Level 3 & 4 for ELA 53% of students performing at Level 3 & 4 for Math 79% of grade 8 students performing at Level 3 & 4 in Science

Dressing for Success It is my belief that the first choice your child makes in the morning is an important decision. All clothing worn to school needs to be appropriate for school.

Dress Policy The dress policy is collared polo shirt and jeans or khakis. On days with PE, students can wear sweats/shorts/t-shirts that are grey or blue. “Hoodies” are not to be worn during the school day.

School Organization Students are housed on floors for a large portion of their day. 6th Grade is on the 3rd floor. On each floor there is a Dean and Assistant Principal. There is one Guidance Counselor for Grade 6 and 7 and one for Grade 8. The gym is located on the 1st floor and the cafeteria is in the basement

Keeping Families Informed Our school uses Pupilpath to keep you connected. You can use Pupilpath to check your child’s assignments, access their grades, correspond with their teachers and much more. An example of one student’s Pupilpath account is as follows:

Grading Policy Alignment in our Grading Policy will help to ensure students understand expectations for being successful. The belief is that we want students to be not only high school ready, but college and career ready.

Ways to help and support ELA MATH Have fun with non-fiction in front of your child Ensure that support is given for “gap” skills such as fractions Supply more non-fiction Know what priority work is for your child at their grade level Supply series of texts on topics that interest your child Spend time with your child on priority work Provide challenging texts as well as books they can read easily Push children to know, memorize, and understand basic math facts Demand evidence in every day discussions and disagreements Ask questions and review homework to see whether your child understands why and what the answer is Encourage writing at home Ask your child to do the math that comes up in daily life

Who Should You Reach Out To? Guidance Counselors: Grade 6 & 7: Ms. Ventura – Ext. 3311 Grade 8: Mrs. Sampedro – Ext. 1254 Parent Coordinator: Ann Lippert – 347-563-4471
