Profile Manager

Emailing Citations from Saved Lists

Under the Hood Full IPIG Profile Compliance 1) Improved error handling 2) Support for IPIG Status extension 3) OCLC Request extension 4) Date/time/phone number formatting 5) Transition table changes

DocFind (Requester) Set the priority of matches so that the system will check for both ISBN and LCCN for monographs Search Lists so we can tell DocFind which specific fields to search according to material type, e.g. ISSN for serials and ISBN and LCCN for monographs/other Search Groups so we can tell DocFind to stop searching after a minimum number of matches Search Groups so we tell DocFind to search by specific service levels Check item status is “available” before adding any location to rota

Brock Due Add to rota Ryerson Carleton Do not add to rota Ottawa E-book Trent EDU-KIT EQUIPMENT EXAM-SHEET EXCEPTION HOLDS Nipissing Holds Do not add to Rota Laurentian HONTHESIS ILL In Library IN PROCESS Western IN REPAIR IN TRANSIT In Transit Add to Rota

DocFind (Responder) New background processor Automated responder based on circulation status/availability Allows internal rerouting of requests

What's Next? New hardware Staff VDX upgrade 2.4 Enhanced End user interface Zportal (2.4) Ariel French interface Additional reports Messaging Testing, Testing, Testing More location records Upgrade to 2.7 or 3 NCIP Enhanced end-user interface with French-language version Translation done in cooperation with Ontario public libraries, CREPUQ, Ottawa Smart Libraries project Hardware upgrades to improve speed and provide redundancy

Ariel and JEDDS Integration with VDX JEDDS is a piece of middleware provided by Infotrieve which allows VDX to communicate by email with the other Ariel workstation using the Document Delivery Interchange protocol (DDI). Staff using the VDX/Ariel systems now uses the JEDDS interface to view incoming scan requests and to trigger Ariel to scan and deliver the requested document once it has been identified. Purchase, install and configure JEDDS on the local machine

Ariel and JEDDS Integration with VDX Requester side – VDX Web client authorizes a request for Service type – copy non returnable Del Parameter – GEDI Delivery Method – Electronic Mail

Ariel and JEDDS Integration with VDX Responder side – VDX Web client Action shipped Select the appropriate Ariel station

Ariel and JEDDS Integration with VDX Responder side – JEDDS / Ariel machine JEDDS must be open to receive the shipped message from VDX In JEDDS – select send/receive – request appears in JEDDS supplier screen as pending Select the request and press “scan document” icon to start the Ariel scanning operation Scan document then select “end” Ariel will send a “shipped indication” to JEDDS Ariel will ship the document to the VDX server document receiver program (or the Ariel station at the requester side? – outstanding question) Press send/receive in JEDDS to send shipped to VDX Responder VDX receives a shipped indication

What is the Issue? "Circulation processes and services are evolving in directions that increasingly require disparate computer applications to exchange information about library users, the items they wish to use, the owners of the items, and the relationships among these three entities. In the absence of an agreed-upon standard for interchanging circulation information, interoperability among disparate applications has been ad hoc and proprietary."

What is the Answer? "A widely implemented standard protocol for the interchange of circulation information between and among disparate circulation applications, between circulation applications and interlibrary loan (ILL), or other related applications can solve this problem."

How do we get there? "The standard is intended to address the growing need for interoperability among disparate circulation, interlibrary loan, and related applications. Interoperability between self-service applications and circulation applications, between and among various circulation applications, between circulation and interlibrary loan applications, and between other related applications have been the principal focus of this standard... "

NCIP NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol ANSI/NISO Z39.83-200x The NISO Standards Committee based its work on the Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) developed by 3M to support self-checkout systems "Defines a repertoire of messages and associated rules of syntax and semantics for use by applications to: (1) perform the functions necessary to lend items; (2) provide controlled access to electronic resources; and, (3) facilitate co-operative management of these functions." Cover Pages: Technology Reports, November 2001 NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP)

CILL Profile Exchange messages between Circulation and ILL applications Defines the subset of NCIP messages sent between the Circulation and ILL systems NCIP Messages: Lookup User, Item, Authenticate User Update Create User, Update Item, Create Agency, Request Item, Check Out Item, Recall Item Notification Item Recalled, Item Shipped, User Notice Sent, User Fiscal Account Updated

From: ISO, IPIG, NCIP, and CILL: What do these Acronyms Mean and How Will They Improve Resource Sharing? By Mary Jackson http://www.mlc.lib.mi.us/workshop/standards-oct01/jackson_presentation/

What are the Benefits of NCIP? How is this Reflected in VDX? Integrates, requires less staff intervention See all loan information in one patron record ILL lending staff can check out a book on their Circulation application and have the Circulation application notify its ILL application that the item has been “shipped” Will Supply or Answer Hold will put a hold in the CIRC system automatically Check-out and Check-in Overdues and Recalls, Renews Due Date Banned Users DocFind-Responder will attempt to place a hold on the item in the circulation system, and respond to the requester with ‘Will Supply’, ‘On Hold’ or ‘Not Supplied’ depending upon the availability of the item and the success of the reservation attempt.
