The world’s libraries. Connected. Introduction to the Navigator Workflow Patron Interface (Texas Group Catalog) demonstration Next Steps Overview of Implementation Process What We’ll Cover Today

The world’s libraries. Connected. Lender / lending library – the library supplying the item; you are the lending library when you supply something to another library. Borrower / borrowing library – the library requesting the item; you are the borrowing library when you request something from another library. Texas Group Catalog – the patron interface where patrons submit requests; http://texasgroup.worldcat.orghttp://texasgroup.worldcat.org NRE (Navigator Request Engine) – the staff interface for request management. Terminology

The world’s libraries. Connected. WorldCat Navigator is a service that provides interlibrary loan within the state of Texas and beyond. The service manages returnable and nonreturnable items, and integrates with internal circulation systems (if your system is interoperable) and the wider OCLC resource sharing network to create a discovery-to- delivery tool that saves time for library patrons and increases efficiency for library staff working in library groups. What is WorldCat Navigator?

The world’s libraries. Connected. WorldCat Navigator In a nutshell - Navigator makes the libraries in your group LOOK like one big library with branches Patrons search one catalog for the whole group Patrons request material anywhere within the group Circulation staff fetch material Material is sent to the right library We call this consortial borrowing

The world’s libraries. Connected. The Navigator Workflow Lending Library Borrowing Library Once an item is requested, Navigator chooses which libraries to query based on availability and group defined protocols WorldCat Navigator Patron

The world’s libraries. Connected. The Navigator Workflow Lending Library Borrowing Library The request is placed in a Navigator queue for the lending library to confirm availability and shipment WorldCat Navigator Patron

The world’s libraries. Connected. The Navigator Workflow Lending Library Borrowing Library Lending library staff print pick slips from Navigator and search the stacks WorldCat Navigator Patron

The world’s libraries. Connected. The Navigator Workflow Lending Library Borrowing Library Staff check the item back in and confirm the return in Navigator which completes the request WorldCat Navigator Patron

The world’s libraries. Connected. 1.Patron searches for and submits a request through the Texas Group Catalog, OR, library staff places request on behalf of patron through NRE. 2.Lending library SHIPS the request to the borrowing library 3.Borrowing library RECEIVES the request, puts it on hold for their patron. 4.Patron brings item back, borrowing library RETURNS item to the lending library 5.Lending library CHECKS IN item in NRE, and the request is now fully completed! 21 The world’s libraries. Connected. NRE is the staff interface for request management. It is used for both the borrowing and the lending functions. Library staff only have access to the requests made by their patrons or that have been sent to them as a lender. Detailed, hands-on exercises and training will be provided once your library completes the required implementation steps. NRE

The world’s libraries. Connected. We will send a follow-up email from WorldCatNavigatorIM@oclc.org. WorldCatNavigatorIM@oclc.org The email will contain instructions on next steps and links to a checklist and the required documents for the project. We do not send attachments in this email in case it sends the email to a junk folder or spam. Reply to the email you receive with your name and your library name. Be sure to add WorldCatNavigatorIM@oclc.org to your list of email contacts or address book!WorldCatNavigatorIM@oclc.org Next Steps
