To Infinity and beyond! Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Focus on friendship – getting on and falling out. Resolving conflicts kindly. Taking more responsibility – special helper jobs. Remembrance Day. What special things would you take with you on a journey to the moon and why? Who would you take with you? Being positive about own abilities – feeling proud of our achievements. Strategies for sharing and taking turns. Physical Development: Fine motor control – developing pencil control and coordination. Tracing patterns and following vertical and horizontal lines. Writing our names and using cursive letter formation. Playing games as part of a team. Developing hand-eye coordination and using a range of equipment – balls, quoits, hoops etc. Exploring apparatus in Gymnastics – climbing safely to a height. Jumping and landing safely from a piece of apparatus. Balancing skills. Communication and Language: Establishing ‘knee buddies’ and discussing our ideas and learning with them. Sharing an idea within a whole class and a small group. Story telling – Whatever Next! Learning a story and retelling with actions. Listening to each other and building on what others have to say. Maintaining attention and concentration during carpet time. Listening to adults and following instructions. . Literacy: Letters and sounds – Continuing to learning the letter sounds. What sound do the letters make? How do we form the letters? Segmenting and blending simple words – using for reading and writing. Beginning to recognise some tricky words – I, go, no, the, to. Space poems and rhymes – continuing a rhyming string. Features of non-fiction texts – reading information books about Space and the Moon. Sharing story of Whatever Next! Ordering events of the story. Sharing the story Aliens love Underpants Reading simple stories and phonics texts. Writing – missing sounds in words, simple captions, a list of things baby bear took to the moon, a postcard home from Space, letters to Santa. Mathematics: Exploring night and day – ordering events during the day. Using the vocabulary of time. Learning some number facts by heart – 1+1=2, 2+2=4. Counting in 10s. Counting forwards and backwards. Filling in missing numbers. Counting out sets of objects. Finding one more and one less. Using the vocabulary of addition – combining two sets to find a total. Exploring shapes – 2D and 3D to build rockets. Identifying shapes and describing. Christmas maths – repeating patterns to design own wrapping paper. Exploring measures – length and weight. Ordering Christmas presents by weight and length. Using non-standard units to measure. Writing numbers and formation. To Infinity and beyond! Expressive Arts and Design: Learning songs for Nativity play. Role play – space station and rocket. Playing with small world toys to make up own narratives. Acting out story of Whatever Next! Take 1 Picture week – representing the painting through senses –adding sounds clips, creating still images, using materials to recreate. Building rockets – using junk modelling and materials, deciding what to use and how to join them. Exploring different instruments – can we play one instrument in different ways to make a new sound? Creating space sounds. Designing and creating own alien pictures. Da Capo music scheme of work. Understanding the World: Take 1 Picture Week – exploring a painting and asking thoughtful questions about it. Using ICT – creating pictures, completing programs, using programmable toys. Learning about Guy Fawkes and fireworks Cooking – pizza planets, peppermint moons and stars, and Christmas treats. Finding out about Space and being an astronaut. What is it like in space? How do astronauts eat, sleep, drink? What is it like to walk on the moon? What does it look like to travel through space? Watching video clips and sharing information texts. Exploring light and dark. How do we celebrate Christmas? RE Week.
