Personal, Social and Emotional Development Unit of work: Changes. How have we changed since starting school? What can I do now that I couldn’t do before? What are my hopes for year 1? What would I like to get better at? Looking after animals. Coping with feelings that animals give us e.g. Fear of spiders and snakes, Working with and appreciating our Y6 buddy. Communication and Language Working with and talking with our ‘knee buddies’ to discuss ideas and learn together. Talk Boost activities. Using the ‘Conversation Station’ to talk to each other, building our communication skills in speaking and listening. Working with a small group and working as a team- making group decisions and compromising. Physical Development Gymnastics unit of work – curling and stretching. Using the apparatus confidently. Games – Bat and Ball skills continued. Practising for sports day – taking part in races, running in the lanes. Obstacle race. Morning handwriting – continuing letter formation. Daily carousel of fine motor control activities – scissor control, playdough, threading etc. Year R – Term 6 All Creatures Great and Small! Literacy Letters and sounds – recap alphabet letters by sound and by name. Recap all vowel digraphs (sh, th, ch, ai, ee,, oa, igh, ar, or, oo, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er. Using them in words for reading and spelling. Learning and reading tricky words. Writing words and sentences accurately . Reading – guided reading in a small group and reflecting on what we have read. Reading sentences and matching to appropriate pictures. Arranging words in the correct order to ensure they make sense. Writing – stories about animals. Instruction text – how to care for our pets. A letter to our year 1 teacher. Story focus: Dear Zoo, Commotion in the Ocean, The Rainbow Fish. Mathematics Learn its – recap and learn 1+1, 2+2, 3+3, 4+4, 5+5, 2+1, 2+3. Taking part in weekly Big Maths, Beat That tests to beat own scores. Addition and subtraction – solving word problems by a range of methods, counting sets, using numberlines and counting on and back. Creating a graph – Which is the most popular pet in our class. Presenting our results using the computer. Counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10. Forwards and backwards. Shopping – buying things in our role play farm shop. Using pennies to make amounts. Paying for things and giving change. Car count – monitoring traffic in Gravel Close and Barford Lane in order to compare 2 locations as part of Geography week across the school. Understanding the World RE unit of work – What does God promise us? Looking in detail at the story of Noah’s Ark. How did God show he cared for the animals? Have we ever made a promise? How does it feel if a promise is broken? Can we make a promise linked to the care of animals? Cooking – flapjacks, farm biscuits, peppermint creams. ICT – using BeeBots and directing them around a maze, playing number games and phonics games, creating a graph of our most popular pet. Farm animals and their produce. Different habitats and the animals that live there. Visits to Riverbourne Community Farm and Marwell Zoo. Geography skills – creating maps and sketching our environment. Expressive Arts and Design Singing with Becky. Learning songs about animals. Identifying animals by their sound – using instruments to create animals sounds. Making masks of farm animals. Junk modelling animals. Painting – pairs of animals to make a giant picture of Noah’s Ark. Collages to create water / zoo / farm / jungle scene. Working together as a team and creating a picture using a variety of materials. Small world toys – playing and making up games and stories. Creating own Rainbow Fish – focus on patterns. Sketching using pencils – comparisons between the churches in the village as part of Geography week.
