Unit 4 Introduction to modern art Do Now: 5 mins Task # 1 take notes, #2 class and group talk 10 mins. # 3 View art 10 mins. # 4 teacher demo 5 mins. Standard VA1 Va2 Va3 Va4 Aim: How can we describe the style of art known as Surrealism? Objective: Students will be able to identify elements in a surrealist painting. They will then create sketches of surrealism for their own composition. Notations: Think about this: Salvador Dali was an artist who was famous for Surrealism. Surrealism is a style of art that uses dreams and imagination in its compositions Many surrealist create fantasy paintings. Vocabulary: Surrealism, Expressionism, Impressionism, Fauvism, Futurism Activity Students will be directed to analyze prints of Salvador Dali. They will be asked what do the see in the image. 5 min, Students in groups will be allowed to process their discoveries. Homework, define the vocabulary and create additional sketches of dreams.
