Find out about their work, life and philosophy (e.g. do they have particular ideas or beliefs that govern their work}. Choose one particular artist to focus on. Make notes on their work paying attention to: Style Techniques Use of colour Subject matter Materials used Compositions Source of inspiration (what inspired them to create their work)  Part 3 : Exam Style Questions EXEMPLAR ART AND DESIGN EXAM PAPER This paper will test your ability to: develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding experiment with and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as your work develops record in visual and/or other forms, ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, demonstrating an ability to reflect on your work and progress present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.

Art and Design The questions below should be seen as starting points for personal investigations in which you make reference to critical and contextual material with which you are familiar. Choose one of the following questions. a) Architectural Features Architectural features such as windows, doorways, columns and balustrades can reflect the character of different cultures and traditions. Artists have represented these features in different ways, ranging from closely observed studies to abstract interpretations. Develop your own response to this theme, making reference to appropriate work by others. b) Animals Animals have often featured in works of art from many cultures. Responses have ranged from the observational work to the imaginative. Some artists have produced decorative and abstract interpretations. Look at relevant examples and develop your own response. c) Patterns of Light and Shadow Patterns of light and shadow on objects, people and interiors have proved to be a stimulating subject for artists. Their work has ranged from closely observed studies to abstract interpretations. Look at appropriate examples and make a personal response to your own observations of light and shadow.   d) Structures Structures can be natural or manufactured. They can be strong or fragile, large or small, complex or simple. Some structures are used to enclose or protect; others are purely decorative. Produce work based on structures, making reference to appropriate contextual materials.    EXTENSION: Create your own piece of artwork inspired by your research on your chosen artist – this could relate to any aspect of the artist’s work.
