2 + OUTCOME 1: ART AND CULTURE Study Guide: Analyse, interpret, compare and contrast artworks from different cultures using the formal framework and the cultural framework Analyse, interpret, compare and contrast artworks that depict the body as the main subject matter from different artistic movements, mediums and how they relate to the culture of the time and location the artwork was created.

3 + LEARNING TASKS In Outcome 1 of Unit 2 Art students will be focusing on artworks that surround the theme of ‘The Body in Art and Culture’. Students will: Discuss the role and purpose of art in cultural contexts Discuss the ways in which art reflects and communicates the values, beliefs and traditions of the societies in which and for which it is made Apply the Formal and Cultural Frameworks to analyse and interpret artworks Compare and contrast artworks Substantiate personal opinions about the artworks Use appropriate art language

4 + KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Key knowledge The role and purpose of art in cultural contexts; How artworks can reflect the beliefs, values and traditions of different cultures; Aspects of the Formal Framework and the Cultural Framework; Art language for the expression of discussion and research. Key skills Apply the Formal Framework and the Cultural Framework to analyse and interpret artworks from different cultures; Compare and contrast artworks from different cultures; Substantiate personal opinions with reference to artworks; Use appropriate art language to discuss artworks.

5 + OUTCOME 2: ARTMAKING AND CULTURAL EXPRESSION Study Guide: Demonstrate technical and artistic development in the presentation of visual responses that include one finished artwork, through the exploration of selected media, materials and techniques In Outcome 2 of Unit 2 Art students should be able to demonstrate technical and artistic development in the presentation of visual responses that include one finished artwork in the theme of ‘The Body in Art and Culture’, through the exploration of selected media, materials and techniques.

6 + LEARNING TASKS Produce a folio of visual responses to the theme: ‘The Body in Art and Culture’ Produce at least one finished artwork Visually interpret your idea through research and ideas Explore the process of making art: Qualities and characteristics of selected materials and art forms Trialing materials, techniques, processes and art forms Manipulate the elements of art to establish a visual language Apply the Formal and Cultural Frameworks Documentation of thinking and working practices in a folio

7 + KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Key knowledge Visual language used to explore issues and ideas of personal and cultural interest; Qualities and characteristics of selected materials and art forms and how they may be used to present concepts and images; Materials, techniques, processes and art forms; Formal elements and principles of artworks; The Formal Framework and the Cultural Framework used to support reflective annotation as they apply to the student’s artmaking; Art language for the purpose of documentation and annotation Key skills Produce visual responses to personal and cultural ideas and issues through exploration and experimentation; Explore media, materials, techniques, processes and art forms and investigate how these can be used to create artworks; Develop skills in artmaking; Manipulate art elements and principles and technical qualities of art forms to produce creative responses using visual language; Document thinking and working practices; Apply knowledge of the Formal Framework and the Cultural Framework in reflective annotation as they apply to their own artmaking

8 + YOUR FOLIO This is an important part of the Art Unit 2 course that includes collecting, exploring and developing conceptual ideas and art making techniques. The results of a body of work should reflect artwork that is informed, relevant and clear and resolute in meaning and display finesse in technical skills. It is a tool for you to refine your ideas and technical skills. It allows you to experiment and make mistakes and learn from this process of investigation without having to waste time correcting these errors in your major work. The folio can contain images and words as well as anything that could act as a prompt for creative expression.
