Agenda for the session New for 2017 Why is PRINCE2 being updated Who was involved How was the update managed What has changed How will the transition be managed What’s next?

The journey to prince2 2017…

Why Update PRINCE2? Last major update to PRINCE2 was 2009 Direct community feedback Events Change Log Partners Community Content AXELOS research: ATO and EI Consultation PRINCE2 2016 Research Future of Project Management, 2017

The Problem Statement(s) Nothing fundamentally wrong but: Tailoring is not visible enough There is no explicit guidance on organizations adopting PRINCE2 Balance so it is less process biased Not explicit on pre and post project activities, e.g. benefits Change theme launches straight into configuration management Rationalize plans into one place More practical considerations Compliance of risk theme with M_o_R®.

Developed in close consultation/collaboration Involving over 100 people from: Practitioners Organizations AXELOS accredited community Academics Drawing on real-life project management expertise

What’s changed

Less emphasis on processes More emphasis on principles, themes, especially tailoring

The same but even better New examinations Managing Successful Projects (New PRINCE2 book) The same but even better How PRINCE2 2017 practitioners can remain current PRINCE2’s tried & tested approach The same, but even better

Why focus on tailoring? PRINCE2 can already be tailored to: the role of the Project Manager the project in hand the needs of the organization PRINCE2 is NOT a waterfall approach to Project Management Tailoring now a thread running throughout method & exams Why focus on tailoring?

New exams test candidates in a fairer way The Benefits New exams test candidates in a fairer way Practical, accessible, authoritative, relevant guidance for anyone managing a project Builds on existing investment in PRINCE2; enhance the value to current adopters Increases the appeal of PRINCE2 for organizations and individuals yet to adopt the method

Remaining Current Current Practitioner certificate expiry dates remain valid until their expiry date New process to remain current from launch of new PRINCE2 2017 exams: No re-registration exam (candidates do have option to simply retake the full exam) New 3 year expiry date on certificate New way to remain current with PRINCE2 through PRINCE2 membership programme
