That 12,000 will die today simply due to lack of food, another 8,000 will die from preventable childhood diseases, is unthinkable. PEOPLE: We confess that such things seem so far away that we have rationalized our way out of responsible action. PASTOR: Today Lord, we confess, we are not only responsible for those far away but also for those close to home. Help us to act. PEOPLE: Lord, I don’t want to be a passive, silent Christian. Show me what to do. Direct me onto the turf of some harvest field. Let me dirty my hands. I give you permission to break my heart.
