2 The Mandate: “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’” (Luke 11:5-6). Church of God World Missions/Church of God Prayer Ministries –

3 The Meditation: PASTOR: Lord, I wonder if I would have opened my home to the destitute and hungry friend in Luke 11. I wonder if I would have responded to his knocking on my door at midnight. I wonder, if after I allowed him inside, I would have gone out of my way to get bread for him in the middle of the night. PEOPLE: And if I had been the friend in need, how would I have felt that night on the street? Standing at the door of the only friend I had in the city, knowing he was at home, wondering if he was going to leave me on the streets of the city. I wonder, would I have graciously apologized for my growling stomach, knowing that he had access to bread from a rich friend? PASTOR: Lord, if I have cut off relationships with the unsaved, the needy, the helpless and homeless, to avoid responsibility for them – forgive me and change me. PEOPLE: If I have hidden from the poor and broken-hearted and done so among blessings that came from your hand – forgive me. Change me. Make me a missionary kind of Christian! 4 The Profile … Malawi is known for its warm climate, the friendliness of its people and its political peace. It is, however, one of the world’s poorest, most densely populated countries and its people suffer from regular periods of hunger, malaria and HIV-AIDS. The Yawo of Malawi are mainly subsistence farmers and fishermen. Common crops include maize, beans, cassava, bananas, groundnuts (peanuts) and tobacco. Divorce rates are high and polygamy is common. Children attend government schools, which are free for primary education and Yawo children often attend madrassah (Muslim) schooling in the afternoons to learn Arabic. The Yawo have their own system of traditional governance, sorting out problems in local village courts. 5 Prayer … Pray for spiritual barriers to be broken among the Yawo and for God to prepare hearts to be open to the Gospel. Pray that the Yawo would be open to their Christian neighbors. Pray for the Scriptures to be accepted by the majority Yawo Muslims as well as other forms of Scriptures (such as audio Bibles, etc.). There are several international mission organizations working among the Yawo; pray for God’s blessing and effective methods of evangelism for those sharing God’s Story with the Yawo. Pray for God’s work among the Yawo physically as well as spiritually. The Unreached People Group Yawo of Malawi Church of God World Missions/Church of God Prayer Ministries –
