Topics Important Websites 4hOnline Livestock ID Field Changes Weigh-In/Retinal Imaging Reminders State Fair Rule Changes/Reminders Future Event Updates FSQA A brief overview of topics we’ll cover today are….

Websites to Bookmark http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock 4-H 202 – Livestock ID & Show Requirements http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/livestock-id Share website view

4hOnline – Livestock ID Field Updates Consistent Field Nomenclature No Field “Alias” – allows for clearer reports Streamlining Livestock Reports

4HOnline – Livestock ID Best Practices Livestock Identification Read the help sheets for staff on entering the weigh-in animal species into 4HOnline (market beef, sheep, market meat goat) Provide help sheets to families on how to identify and input each animal type into 4HOnline Require ALL animals to be identified in 4HOnline – both county fair and state fair animals Do not accept paper ID forms for non-weigh in animals; have the family input the information themselves into 4HOnline Offer computer access in county office for families without internet access to come in and identify animals in 4HOnline Encourage county office and/or clubs to have an “ID Night” where youth can identify their animals in the system Send out reminders weekly via email, newsletter, text message, Facebook, etc. about the identification deadlines: February 1 – Market Beef May 15 – all remaining species (except rabbits) July 1 – Rabbits

4HOnline – Livestock State Office Communication Strategy – Broadcast Email Jan. 15 - Market Beef verify deadline (Feb. 1) Weekly: May 1 – May 15 – ID deadline June 1 – Opening of State Fair online entry Weekly: June 15 – July 1 – State Fair entry deadline

Fair Entry Software Program Interested 2017 Fairs – webinar, Wed. Nov. 9th @ 1 PM https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/779446973 Support Resources https://fairentry.zendesk.com/hc/en-us Email: sales@fairentry.com

2017 Key Rule/Policy Changes (upon approval) Ak-Sar-Ben Identification Utilize retinal images for market beef, sheep, meat goat No hair DNA required (remove check box from 4hOnline) $5/head fee will nominate animal for BOTH shows Simple “Retinal Image” checkbox in 4hOnline State 4-H Office will provide Ak-Sar-Ben with nomination report listing of eligible animals Swine DNA hair sample still needed Counties submit samples directly to Ak-Sar-Ben $5.00/head fee

2017 Key Rule/Policy Changes (upon approval) NEW Horse & Dog Identification Rule Immediate siblings can co-identify the same horse or dog in 4hOnline No change that animal is EITHER 4-H or FFA, not both State Fair (and strongly recommended for county fairs) will require the animal to only show in ONE class – example cannot show same horse in 5th grade poles for brother and then 9th grade poles for sister

2017 Key Rule/Policy Changes (upon approval) NEW 4-H 202 Publication Update Edit verbiage to reflect ownership, care & housing – sharing/leasing opportunities outside of horse project Edit Ak-Sar-Ben changes (final approval) New version out around Dec. 1

Weigh-Ins/Retinal Imaging Again for 2017: Counties invoiced for $5/head fees (U-bill) Visiting animals will be billed to home county’s U-Bill Home county must input animal data into 4hOnline Be sure to mark the “Retinal Images” box in 4HOnline for State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben animals Images will still be emailed to State 4-H Office Again for market beef, all sheep and now all meat goats, counties will be invoiced on their U-Bill for the $5/head fee Remember, the HOME county must input that animal data into 4hOnline; so, for example, if Story County has 5 animals that weighed in at Boone County’s weigh-in, Story County inputs the data into 4hOnline AND Story County will get billed for the $5/head fee. Boone County will need to pay/reimburse Story County for those animals. It’s not the best system, but it’s the best for what we have to work with for ISU Accounting requirements Since your billing is based on the # of animals with retinal images, be SURE you have that box checked in 4hOnline when entering the data into 4hOnline. As always, images will need to be emailed to Mike at the State 4-H Office

Weigh-Ins/Retinal Imaging Original or Tablet machines Either is acceptable to use Livestock ID website for reminders and set-up details - http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/livestock-id Pricing/Sharing options for counties https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/agriculture/staff/RetinalClearViewIDFlyer2013.pdf Volunteer/Staff Training Needed? – Contact Mike! Don’t forget to test out your machines! Read the Weigh-In Reminders on Livestock ID page

Ear Tags – Enter Correctly!! Both in 4hOnline & Retinal Machine USDA-type Tag Enter ONLY the 3 Letters, 4 Numbers Do NOT enter “42” Do NOT enter your 2-digit county code Ex. ZAC1447 “Old” County 4-H Tags Enter as usual County code, Tag # (Ex. 85123)

State Fair Swine ID – same for 2017 Either swine animal type is eligible for State Fair DNA punch tag required Counties ordered tag materials from State 4-H Office State Office will ship materials out to counties $8.00/tag will be invoiced based on order. Tagging/Submitting DNA samples County staff can DNA tag pigs Or, have 4-H’er get tags/tagger and bring back DNA samples in special envelope Counties mail each kid’s envelope of DNA samples via trackable source (UPS, FedEx) as one group by May 15th Simple list of 4-H’er names from that county with box of envelopes
