6. 4HOnline – Livestock ID Best Practices Livestock Identification
Read the help sheets for staff on entering the weigh-in animal species into 4HOnline (market beef, sheep, market meat goat)
Provide help sheets to families on how to identify and input each animal type into 4HOnline
Require ALL animals to be identified in 4HOnline – both county fair and state fair animals
Do not accept paper ID forms for non-weigh in animals; have the family input the information themselves into 4HOnline
Offer computer access in county office for families without internet access to come in and identify animals in 4HOnline
Encourage county office and/or clubs to have an “ID Night” where youth can identify their animals in the system
Send out reminders weekly via , newsletter, text message, Facebook, etc. about the identification deadlines:
February 1 – Market Beef
May 15 – all remaining species (except rabbits)
July 1 – Rabbits
Type in the chat box any unique ideas you do in your county

9. Weigh-Ins/Retinal Imaging
Again for 2019:
Counties invoiced for $5/head fees (U-bill)
Visiting animals will be billed to home county’s U-Bill
Home county must input animal data into 4hOnline
Be sure to mark the “Retinal Images” box in 4HOnline for State Fair animals
County staff will upload images to shared CyBox folder – Include county name (i.e. “Story Market Beef 2019”)

11. Ear Tags – Enter Correctly!! Both in 4hOnline & Retinal Machine

Enter ONLY the 3 Letters, 4 Numbers
“IA” has replaced the “42” – still does not need entered
Do NOT enter your 2-digit county code either
Correct Format: JJO1234 (no spaces)
“Old” County 4-H Tags – ONLY use for county fair only animals

12. State Fair Swine ID – same for 2019
Either swine animal type is eligible for State Fair
DNA punch tag required
Counties ordered tag materials from State 4-H Office
State Office will ship materials out to counties
$8.00/tag will be invoiced based on order.
Tagging/Submitting DNA samples
County staff can DNA tag pigs
Or, have 4-H’er get tags/tagger and bring back DNA samples in special envelope
Counties mail each kid’s envelope of DNA samples via trackable source (UPS, FedEx) as one group by May 15th

13. Aksarben Animal ID NEW CHANGE for 2019!
ALL Aksarben animals will be both identified AND entered for the show through Aksarben
County staff will not handle any paperwork, payment, or DNA hair samples (no retinal images either)
Families will go online and submit ID and show entries on their own

17. Horse
Change for 2019: Halter class horses MUST be owned – cannot be leased; registration papers will NOT be required – allows grade horses to show in halter classes (back to 2017 rule)
Drop Pony Showmanship class (will show with horses)
Drop Miniature Horse Driving & Obstacle Driving classes
9-12 grade English Walk/Trot – will splint into grades 9/10 & 11/12

18. Meat Goat
Again for 2019: (Reminder) Birth date field required in 4hOnline animal type
Again for 2019: No clipping or shearing in the barn; goats must come show-ready (same as sheep rule)

19. Sheep Add rule: If less than 5 head are
entered, will show in “All Other Breeds”
class
New Class: “Pedigree Wether Dam”
All breeds accepted. Animals must be registered, with papers presented at check-in. Classification will be based off of registration papers. Hair sheep (Dorpers) will also be accepted in this class
Entries must be born after January 1 of the current year.
Classes will be split into breeds with 5 or more entries in the particular breed. Breeds with less than 5 head will show in the All Other Breeds class.
Breed champions will compete for Grand Champion 4-H Purebred Wether Dam.
Animals must be slick-shorn prior to entering the fairgrounds.

20. Sheep Re-word class descriptions:
White-face (add Southdown lambs to qualify for this)
Speckled-face (will call it White-breed influence/speckled face) and include acceptance of piebald lambs to class qualification/description

21. Swine Again for 2019: Declared weight system
Exhibitor writes down a “declared” weight during check-in time
Show weight (if re-weighed as top 3 in class) must be within 15 lbs. of the declared weight

22. Swine - Reminder County Fair Swine Show Application & Reporting
Fair Application Form – at least 30 days prior to show
Fair Show Report – within 5 days after fair show
Forms on 4-H Swine page
ALL swine need a tag for show reporting purposes
Ear Notches – Required for State Fair DNA tags and for “old” style county tags; NOT required for USDA (US Shield) tags
