Other issues French students have limited luggage Please provide them with towel and access to toiletries If possible, offer to wash some clothes half way through the week Speak ENGLISH to the students – they may find it hard to understand but they are expecting to hear English as much as possible and are here to learn. Your chance to try French will come when we are in France They have been encouraged to get involved as much as possible in English life – food, culture. They also have a booklet to complete – ask them about it and help them! Be aware of how tired they will be Allow them to be as involved as possible in normal family life. They can help out with chores, go shopping, do paper rounds – all these things are interesting and a chance to get to know life here Don’t feel as though you have to occupy them the whole time. Watching television, giving them time to themselves is fine Sunday and evenings – possibility of meeting up with other exchange students

Problems? You are responsible for the students when they are not with us. Please treat them as you would your own child for the week. Mobile phone usage Expect the students to find it hard to adapt Parents may call during the first evening They will feel homesick If they are very unhappy try to avoid them making contact with home. Try diversion tactics instead! If they are still unhappy or there are any other problems call me - number on programme

Return visit - travel plans Staff accompanying – Caroline Brooke, Angie Mok and Julie Wilson The trip takes place in school time and so there will an expectation that students keep up with missed school work Where possible you will be staying with your penfriends – this may not always be possible in which case you will be informed Draft programme – any questions?
