Presentation transcript:

Involve out of control growth and spread of abnormal cells. Cancer Involve out of control growth and spread of abnormal cells. Normal cells in our body will grow, divide, and die. New healthy cells typically repair injured cells and replace dead ones.

Cancer cells continue growing and dividing and spread to other parts of the body. These cells accumulate and form tumors(lumps that compress, invade and destroy normal healthy tissue).

Cancer Terms Metastasis- The moving of a tumor to a new site in the body. Benign- Noncancerous tumor. Leukemia- Form of cancer that usually does not form a tumor because it involves the blood & blood forming organs in the body(bone marrow, spleen)

2nd leading cause of death in the United States. Millions of people are cured each day! 33% of cancer diagnosis is linked to dietary choices. 2nd leading cause of death in the United States. Half of all men and one-third of all women will develop cancer in their lifetime.

Today, over half of all cancer patients will be cured! Choose foods that help maintain healthy weight. Limit consumption of red & processed meats. Eat 2 ½ cups of vegetables and fruits daily! Choose whole grains over refined grains!
