Computech Middle School Band Parent Informational Meeting Thursday, August 23, 2017 6:00pm Computech Band Room (rm. 90)

Class Titles and ensemble names Beginning Band (Beginning Level, period 3) Concert Band (Intermedaite Level, period 7) Wind Ensemble (Advanced Level period 5) Jazz Ensemble (period 2) Percussion Ensemble (period 4)

Class expectations What each band student needs: ½ inch, 3-ring Binder with clear sheet protectors for music. Instrument in working condition with necessary supplies. -Working reeds (one reed should only last roughly 2-3 weeks) -Valve Oil Pencil with eraser. Open-minded and positive attitude.

Class Expectations All Performances and additional rehearsals are mandatory. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Alternate assignments are available for missed performances. Outside of class practice may be necessary. In a quiet space to allow for focus Ideally 120 minutes per week. Private Lessons are encouraged Fresno Pacific University offers free lessons on Sundays For more information, contact Mr. Mellone.

CLAss expectations Instrumental Coaches Project for the 2017-2018 school year is to bring in coaches for each instrument for Wind Ensemble and Concert Band each week. Coaches will provide mini master classes for each instrument during band class time. Guest Clinicians A Goal for the 2017-2018 school year is to bring in a number of clinicians for the Wind Ensemble. Leading educators in the band field. Provide a fresh ear and perspective towards enhancing our performance.

2017-2018 Performances

Football Game Night- All Band Students. Either Friday, October 13 or Friday, October 26 Students will stay after school that day and ride bus to Edison High School football game. Perform with Edison High School Golden Brigade. Dismissal after halftime performance (estimated 9pm) Dinner provided ($)

Parent Concert vs. Festivals Parent Concerts Festivals perform for Computech Band family and friends only. Usually during the School Day Perform for Adjudicators We are the only groups performing High School or Collegiate Directors Sometimes a special guest ensemble Receive a post performance clinic Free, donations accepted. Other Schools present Weekday evenings Open to public ($$) Usually 6pm

Disneyland trip Friday, May 4th, 2018 Leave 8am Friday, return 2am Saturday Voluntary Trip for band and orchestra Estimated Price per student/chaperone: $200.00 Includes transportation (charter bus), park admission, workshop, and dinner. Lunch provided by Computech. How to pay: Pay fees outright Earn fees through fundraiser participation/Volunteer at Save Mart Center Financial Assistance may be available for families that qualify. Email Mr. Mellone for more information.

Fundraisers Program fundraising goal of $15,000.00 for 2017-2018 school year. -$150.00 per student. Donations are accepted in lieu of participation in fundraisers. Donations are tax-deductible. Checks made out to: Edison Computech PTSO, “band” in memo line Cash accepted. Edison Computech PTSO Tax ID Number: 93-1208089

Scheduled Fundraisers Wednesday, August 30th- Panda Express Profit Share Program is donated 20% of sales profits during time window with presentation of flyer. Wednesday, September 6 through 22nd- Discount Cards Sold at $20 each, program profits $10 per card sold. Monday, January 22 through Feb 2nd- Festival Packets (Chocolates/Candies) -program profits 50% of sales Date TBD (in spring semester)- Chipotle Profit Share Program is donated 50% of sales profits during time window with presentation of flyer. Date TBD, SnapRaise Donation Drive

Save Mart Center Volunteering Ongoing fundraiser Save Mart Center Volunteering 2016-2017 School year profit: $9,658.79 Only 12 active volunteers Pick event that works best with your schedule. Several events per month. Earn $25 towards fundraising goal/Disneyland Trip per shift volunteered. Each shift is roughly 4 hours each. No commitment other than shift time. Must become TIPS Certified (serve alcoholic beverages). Training is good for three years. Edison and Bullard use SMC.
