Leadership Foundation 101

Leadership Foundation’s Mission The Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation exists to generate and provide financial support for Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity’s educational and charitable programs, which assist members to achieve individual and professional excellence within the business community. As far back as 1945 Delta Sigma Pi began to give consideration to forming a charitable foundation to support its educational and scholastic endeavors with the Educational Foundation. In 1978, the Leadership Fund was created. The Leadership Fund and the Educational Foundation were merged to create the Leadership Foundation in 1993. Today, the Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation continues the strong tradition of supporting our Fraternity and its members. Today, brothers of Delta Sigma Pi continue to ensure the progress of our Fraternity through their contributions to our Leadership Foundation. The Mission of the Leadership Foundation is exclusively charitable in nature and is as follows: "The Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation exists to generate and provide financial support for Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity’s educational and charitable programs, which assist members to achieve individual and professional excellence within the business community."

Main Areas of Support Leadership Development and Training Personal and Professional Improvement Scholarship & Academic Achievement These are three main areas that the Foundation supports within Delta Sigma Pi: Leadership Development and Training for officers at all levels, including collegiate and alumni members Personal and Professional Improvement and Scholarship & Academic Achievement This is accomplished by enhancing educational opportunities at events shown on the next slide.

The Foundation Supports… LEAD Schools LEAD Provincial Conferences Volunteer Leadership Development Collegiate Leadership Development National LeaderShape® Institute Succeed Faster Grand Chapter Congress Educational Programming The Foundation supports events such as LEAD Schools, LEAD Provincial Conferences, Grand Chapter Congress, collegiate leadership development, and volunteer leadership development by providing funds that keep registration fees down and by enhancing educational programming.

And the Winner is… Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships Over 50 scholarships ranging in value from $250 to over $5,000 each Scholarships for Collegiate Leadership Development programs Scholarship Keys presented to top business student where a chapter is active COLLEGIAN OF THE YEAR Regional COYs - 31 Cash award, pearl and ruby badge, certificate Provincial COYs - 5 $500 for graduate studies (National COY receives $5,000 instead) Receives Regional Benefits National COY - 1 $5,000 for graduate studies Receives Regional Benefits and Provincial Recognition One of the biggest areas people know about for Foundation support is our scholarship program. Annually, more than 80 scholarships are awarded to Deltasigs ranging between $250 to nearly $5,000 each. The Foundation has more than 40 endowment funds that support academic scholarships and educational grants to support Delta Sigma Pi and its members. The Scholarship Key is presented by the Dean at each university to the business school student(s) with the highest GPA. The Foundation supports this program by funding a scholarship key award for each school annually where we have an active chapter.

Where Can I Find… www.dsp.org A listing of scholarships and applications? A list of funds seeking endowment? Information about giving levels and giving clubs? A way to give a gift online? How to be a Deltasig For Life Donor? www.dsp.org There may be times you’re asked questions or have more questions yourself about the Foundation. Where can you go.? You can find more information about scholarships, endowments, giving levels and more at www.dsp.org within the Leadership Foundation section. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, call the Central Office or any Leadership Foundation Trustee for assistance.

Leadership Foundation Supporters The Foundation has a lot of donors including alumni members, collegians and corporate and non-member donors too. The Collegiate donations make up a very small percentage of the total funds raised by the Leadership Foundation. The reason why is because you are to be the primary beneficiaries of funding efforts. One of the lessons taught by Delta Sigma Pi is that there is more to be gained through giving than by taking. The Leadership Foundation certainly wants our Deltasig brothers to give generously when called upon. However, for the Foundation to fulfill its purpose, brothers, especially collegiate members, must also take. So take advantage of the scholarships and educational programs that the Leadership Foundation offers to you, and support the Foundation to help it grow and expand its impact when you are able. Provide for it as it has provided for you.

Where does the support go? Where does the money go for the Leadership Foundation? In addition to operational expenses, scholarship to individuals including Collegians of the Year and grants to chapters, the Foundation gives tens of thousands of dollars annually to the Fraternity via grants that support LEAD events, Grand Chapter Congress, Educational & Leadership Consultant program, Collegiate Leadership Development, Scholarship Keys, volunteer development and alumni programming.

Giving Levels and Groups Cumulative Giving Annual Giving Special Giving Groups Deltasig For Life Donor Living Legacy Society The Foundation offers recognition for cumulative, annual and special giving groups.

Upon reaching the following levels, recognition of the donor occurs: Cornerstone $5,000-$9,999 Entrepreneur $10,000-$24,999 Benefactor $25,000-$49,999 Fifth Founder $50,000-$99,999 Centurion $100,000-$249,999 Sustainer $250,000-$499,999 Advocate $500,000-$999,999 Visionary $1 Million + The Foundation recognizes its donors for reaching milestone lifetime giving levels. Giving categories for a quarter million and up were more recently added – YOU (or someone you ask) could be the first to achieve those giving levels!

Annual Giving Annual Giving by our members and partners is a key to the Foundation’s success and is the basis for the Honor Roll of Donors. A variety of annual giving groups exist including: Foundation Member $100-$499 Leadership Society $500-$999 1907 Society $1,000-$2,499 Crown & Delta Society $2,500-$4,999 Trustee Society $5,000-$9,999 Old Gold Society $10,000-$24,999 Chairman Society $25,000 + Annual giving is the cornerstone for the Foundation’s existence and overall success. With an annual gift as small as $100, a person joins our Honor Roll of Donors and appears in the November issue of The DELTASIG magazine. All current donors to the Foundation receive The DELTASIG magazine.

Special Giving Groups Deltasig For Life Donor Living Legacy Society Recognizes members who pledge to support the Foundation’s annual fund through automatic credit/debit card gifts on a monthly or quarterly basis. Collegiate members can join this group at the Grand President’s Circle Funder with automatic gifts of at least $20 annually while in college. Living Legacy Society Membership in the Living Legacy Society is bestowed on those designating a minimum gift of $10,000 to the Leadership Foundation through their planned giving such as a will, life insurance, or similar method. The Foundation has two active special giving groups today – Deltasig For Life Donor and Living Legacy Society. The Deltasig For Life Donor program recognizes those members who pledge to support the Foundation’s annual fund through automatic credit/debit card gifts on a monthly or quarterly basis. The Living Legacy Society is for those who like to plan ahead and want to leave something for Delta Sigma Pi upon their passing. Becoming a member of the Society, once you’ve designated Delta Sigma Pi as a recipient of a planned giving vehicle, is quite simple.

Leadership Foundation Management Who operates the Foundation? Leadership Foundation Trustees Central Office Staff Volunteers How do I become a Foundation Trustee? Donate to the Leadership Foundation Volunteer for Leadership Foundation Events Express an interest to a current Trustee The Foundation is managed by Fraternity employees and is overseen by a Board of Trustees comprised of 15 individuals. These people, along with countless volunteers who serve on Foundation committees, keep the Foundation running and operational. Of course, donations from you and all Deltasigs ultimately makes the organization thrive. If someone is interested in becoming a Trustee or volunteer of the Foundation, they should continue to donate to the best of their means annually and they should contact the Central Office or a Trustee to express their interest to be involved.
