What is a Title 1 School? A Title I school is… o A school that receives Title I money, the largest single federal funding source for education. Title I funding began with the passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of o A school that helps ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach grade-level proficiency. o A school that uses Title I funds to help students who are behind academically or at risk of falling behind.

What do services look like? Services can include: Hiring teachers to reduce class size or supplement the general education program. Tutoring Technology equipment to enhance learning Parental involvement activities Professional development for teaching staff Purchase of materials and supplies Pre-kindergarten programs After school programming

Title 1 Budget for

Program Supports for Students Students performing below standards will receive multiple opportunities to develop reading and math skills through reading, math and writing interventions in Homework and Academic Clubs through CLC that focus on reading, math, writing, art and science. Reading/Math Interventions (Lexia, Symphony Math RtI Literacy Groups, Math Reteach groups, Reading Recovery) PLC meetings focus on data analysis of formative assessment and responsive instructional practice to close the gap for non-proficient students using the Data Teams Process. Family Engagement/Parent Education Opportunities such as Curriculum Night, Conferences, Family Education Activity Nights (Science, Art, Literacy, Social Skills Development, Health & Nutrition) Parent Information Resource Center (Relocated to Room 113)

Program Supports for Students Special Education for verified students Co-teaching and team teaching used to supplement reading, writing and research with media specialist. Foster Grandparent Program and Southeast Community College/UNL college students providing tutoring for children in reading and math. Tot Time for Parents and children ages birth to 5 years through CLC programming ExCite Preschool (returned to NP )

Plans for Continued Success o Use the Data Teams process to improve data analysis and instructional planning for students. o Monitor and evaluate student achievement on a weekly/monthly basis to ensure that all students are progressing. o Professional development in the area of Data Analysis, Reading Instruction, Math Instruction (K-5) and Cultural Proficiency o Increase parent involvement and education through family nights sponsored by PTO and CLC, parent and child education opportunities and volunteerism in the school. o Develop a strong knowledge base for serving ELL students via Ell teacher, Ell Coach and bilingual liaisons. o Continue to grow the Health & Wellness program at school to incorporate parent and student participation at home to increase health and wellbeing of students so that they are prepared to learn each day.

Partnering with Parents through… o Home-School Communications (The Beep, Conferences, , scheduled meetings, phone conversations and classroom communication) o Homework Assignments o Family Events (Science Fair, Science and Art Family Nights, One Book-One Family, Monthly Events sponsored by PTO) o Parent/Family Resources available in Family Center o Parent-Teacher Organization o Community Council at Norwood Park (All parents/guardians welcome) o Parent participation on district committees o Curriculum Night, Conferences, Open House, Special Events o School Compact

School Compact School compacts are an agreement between students, parents and staff to fulfill their roles in student achievement. The school compact is a revised and updated version. The revision was done last spring by the Community Council, Staff and 5 th grade students. Compacts are signed annually … we must have 100% returned and filed to meet legal mandates. The compact is available online and in the school office. Copies are sent home once compact is signed by all parties.
