Enter to Learn…Exit Ready for the Future

I’m Ms. Gibert, and I love… Teaching This is my second year teaching, and my first year at Olde Towne Middle School. I am so excited to be your teacher and to get to know each of you! My Dog I have a dog named Rhett. He is three years old. He is a black labrador retriever. He is a crazy dog. You will all hear a lot of stories about him. Drake Drake is my favorite rapper. I own all of his albums and singles. I have a Drake keychain, magnet, and bookmark. Ole Miss I graduated from Ole Miss in While I was there, I recruited for the football team as an Athletic Ambassador. I also was a Diamond Girl, and served as Captain for the team.

Expectations What should you do when you arrive at school each day? 1. Walk silently and directly to your homeroom which is your 1 st block class on A day and your 5 th block class on B day. 2. If your teacher is present, enter and sit in your assigned seat and silently read a book. 3. If your teacher is not at the door, sit silently in the hallway and read until she arrives. Sit by your teacher’s door against the wall.

In the morning, after you arrive to your class, what if you … need to use the bathroom? 1. You must ask your teacher. 2. You must have a pass. 3. You must return ASAP! want to go the library? 1. You must ask your teacher. 2. You must have a pass. 3. Sign in at the library. 4. Return ASAP.

Bell Ringer Expectations 1. Read the side board to determine what the bell ringer activity is each day. Then… Pick up either the bell ringer mini-lesson handout or your reading packet from thetable. 2. Do not put away the bell ringer until told to do so. 4. Be prepared to share your answers or read your written response. 5. Bell ringer will be collected by your teacher.

Ms. Gibert needs our attention. Now what? There will be two ways that I will get your attention. “1-2-3…Clap, Clap, Clap” 1. I will count You will clap three times and become silent. 2. Eyes on me! “Give Me Five” 1. I will raise my hand and say, “Give me five.” 2. When you see my hand up, you should raise your hand, look at me, and close your mouth. Let’s Practice.

How do I get Ms. Gibert’s attention? If you have a question that is vital or pertinent to the lesson, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP ONE FINGER. 1 If you need a tissue, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP TWO FINGERS. 2 If you need to use the bathroom (only after I have taught the lesson), RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP THREE FINGERS. 3 THERE WILL NEVER BE A REASON TO YELL OUT ANSWERS OR SPEAK WITHOUT PERMISSION. I WILL OFTEN RANDOMLY CALL ON YOU…BE PREPARED TO ANSWER.

WHAT IF I NEED TO… SHARPEN MY PENCIL? PENCILS MAY ONLY BE SHARPENED AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS. PENCILS MAY BE BORROWED FROM THE STUDENT CENTER AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS ONLY. YOU MUST RETURN THEM TO THE STUDENT CENTER. THROW AWAY TRASH? KEEP YOUR GARBAGE ON YOUR DESK OR UNDER YOUR DESK. DISPOSE OF TRASH ON YOUR WAY OUT AT THE END OF CLASS.

Turning in Assignments or Tests 1. Homework or Classwork – When told to do so, place your paper in the correct block’s basket. 2. Tests – Turn your test into the correct block’s basket. 3. Let’s Practice.

Practice Using the Black Tray Sorter 1. When your table is called, stand and move to the baskets at the front of the room. 2. Remember to put your paper in your correct block’s slot. 3. The expectation is absolutely NO TALKING during this procedure.

“Ms. Gibert, may I use the bathroom?” Typically, my answer to this question will be “NO,” so ask ONLY in an emergency. Raise three fingers and ask first, BUT… a. Do not ask to use the bathroom while I am teaching or talking. b. Do not ask to use the bathroom if someone else is out of the room. c. Take the yellow pass and wear it around your neck while out. d.
