 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What is distribution?  Getting films to different locations and fields, for instance getting a movie to various cinemas or to DVD.

Will they be interested in our film? An example of an independent film distributor is Optimum Releasing, a distribution company within Studio Canal. They should be interested in distributing our film, as Studio Canal do a lot of thriller films, which is the genre of our film. This is good, as we have common ground.

Is your film going to appeal to UK audiences only? Or does it have a wider appeal? Why? Why not?  It would appeal to anyone who enjoys watching action thriller films, especially those who enjoy watching spy films. This is because it has locations/settings all around the world so everyone can relate to it. However, the main character is English so it would be mainly people from Britain who relate to him better.

Marketing strategies, release strategies and exhibition options  We will take our films to various film festivals, in the hope of finding some distributors, in order to get our film viewed in cinemas. We hope to get lots of distributors, in order to get our film advertised to the widest range possible. Get our film viewed in more than just the UK, also in the hope of a successful DVD production.

Self-distribution  We could approach self-distribution through social networking, viral marketing and word of mouth. We will make a Facebook page, and a Twitter account so people can keep up to date with the film’s progress. We can also make an advert on Facebook as a pop-up, so more people see it. We will also put interviews with the cast and crew on YouTube, and put adverts on there.
