Galileo

Galileo….  Was an astronomer  Wanted to determine how the planets and stars moved.

Galileo…  Invented the telescope to help in his study.  He studied the stars and planets using the telescope.

The Catholic Church…  Believed that Aristotle was right when he said the earth was at the center of our solar system.

Galileo…  Used the telescope to prove that the sun is at the center of our solar system.

Galileo…  Wrote about his discoveries in two separate books that were widely published.

The Catholic Church…  Did not like that Galileo proved him wrong and tried to say that Galileo was crazy.

Galileo…  Was put on trial for heresy (speaking against the church).  He refused to change his story.
