4 Who is an apprenticeship for? Apprenticeships are available to anyone wanting to work and gain a qualification. There are different levels, which accommodate your existing educational attainment: Post GCSEs Post A-Levels Post Degree An apprentice must be living in England or Wales and not in full-time education An apprentice must be 16 years and above and be at the statutory school leaving age

Competence based qualification – practical and hands on experience obtained ‘On-the-job’ Knowledge based qualification – theory behind your work, obtained from ‘Off-the-job’ training and an exams (Varies between 1 and 70 days)

9 Apprenticeship Wages Average apprenticeship wage is £ per week All apprentices on an intermediate or advance apprenticeship in England must be paid a minimum hourly rate of £3.30, although a number of employers pay higher than this. (This rate applies to all year olds and those aged 19 or over in their first year of their apprenticeship) The minimum wage for a higher apprentice is the same as the normal minimum wage based on the age of the apprentice Other Employment benefits may apply such as: Pension, free meals, free uniform etc.

10 Higher & Degree Apprenticeships Higher Apprenticeships are both a great alternative to university. Degree Apprenticeship are increasing in number and are now another way to access university Many now offer qualifications up to Master Degree level! You will also receive training (on-and off-the-job), a salary and the opportunity to really start moving your career forward.

11 Higher & Degree Apprenticeships Employability gains: 90% of all apprentices either stay employed with their employer or go on to another job, once their apprenticeship scheme is completed. Relevant work experience gained The Job market is hugely competitive with anywhere between 20 to over a 1000 applicants for 1 job. On average one third of all UK graduates are employed in jobs that do not require degrees. Regardless of what you choose to do after school, the higher your educational attainment the more likely you are to be employed.
