3 WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP ? An Apprenticeship is a direct step into a career and for young people under the age of 18 fulfils your legal requirement to stay in education or training Apprenticeships are paid employment with training, leading to qualifications Apprenticeships allow you to be in full- time work as well as gaining qualifications

Finding an Apprenticeship takes time and commitment It’s important to get the best grades you can A good CV can be really useful Evidence of work can make a big difference (part-time, voluntary and work experience are all useful) It’s a good idea to apply for a range of Apprenticeships It’s worth making use of all the help that’s available

16 APPRENTICESHIPS ANSWERS TO SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS… Anyone over the age of 16 can do an Apprenticeship Some, but not all Apprenticeships, require attendance with a training provider Some Apprenticeships start in September, but others start throughout the year You can do A Levels and then do an Apprenticeship You can go to university after you have completed an Apprenticeship but not the other way round You are responsible for finding the job, but training providers will support you You will need a CV – even if you have registered on the AV website There is a legal minimum wage for apprentices
