Water Resource Management Elements Groundwater exploration using geophysical and hydro-geological method Undertaking water quality test Select and recommend water supply technology in line with the hydro- geological set up and terrain condition (tube well/dug well fitted with hand-pump, spring protection, pipe scheme etc) Advocating small scale irrigation scheme : dams, deviation bands to protect groundwater through aquifer recharge Selection of WP where there is no chance of surface contamination
Required Budget for Strategic Action Plan Water Supply, (Rehabilitation and new WPs) Million Sanitation Million Hygiene Promotion Million O&M 5.84 Million Water Quality 2.1 Million Source and Catchment Protection Million Institutional Strengthening Million Capacity Building Million SWAp 2.60 Million Administrative costs Million Total Million
Challenges Low or Poor Financial commitment in the sector Low capacity of private sector and NGOs working in the WASH sector at the national level Poor security in some parts of the country Lack of access to modern technologies and appropriate equipments/tools to be used for ground water exploration Lack of Hydro geological information and data Lack of interest in ownership and O&M affairs by users and local communities
Challenges Poor coordination at the national level between related stakeholders (PRRDs, DoE, NGOs) Lack of a decentralized MIS system for WASH at provincial level. Lack of information and awareness on Rural WASH policy and key sector documents at the provincial level Increasingly Ground water contamination, particularly in urban areas because of the absence of sewages system in big cities
