1 Nigeria - Vision Long term vision Focus for 2014-2016
- Be among top 20 economies by the year 2020: WASH important driver. - Achieve universal access and eliminate open defecation nationwide by 2025. Focus for - Increase political prioritization, financial & human resources to scale-up successful approaches in Sanitation (CLTS). - Prioritize un-served population and vulnerable groups. - Put systems in place to ensure sustainability. Water: 61% have access to improved water, but off-track for MDG Sanitation: not much progress 31% use improved toilets 23% practice O.D. Inequalities: poorest households are 36 times more likely to practice O.D. than richest

2 Challenges Key bottlenecks
- poor coordination amongst the three tiers of government and relevant federal ministries - lack of harmonized policy for sanitation deliver - limited capacities for effective programme delivery especially at sub-national levels - inadequate funding especially for sanitation - weak monitoring and reporting systems. Mobilize additional resources from private sector and development partners for WASH in communities, schools and health facilities by end of 2016 Ensure progressive annual increase in national budget allocation of up to 1.5% for water supply and 1.0% for sanitation by 2016 Strengthen implementation of WASH sector M&E framework including budget tracking in 36 states and FCT by 2016 Sustainability Equality Equality Policy and plans Policy and plans Coordination Harmonize all existing sanitation and hygiene policies to provide effective framework for program delivery by end of 2014 Develop a national CLTS Roadmap by 2015, and support its implementation in all the 36 states and all rural communities by 2025 Set up high level Inter Ministerial Committee to ensure effective sector coordination and monitor implementation of SWA HLM commitments
