Definition of a textbook  GS 115C – 85 As used in this part, 'textbook' means systematically organized materials comprehensive enough to cover the primary objectives outlined in the standard course of study for a grade or course. Formats for textbooks may be print or nonprint, including hardbound books, softbound books, activity-oriented programs, classroom kits, and technology-based programs that require the use of electronic equipment in order to be used in the learning process.

Information about Textbook Selection  Public School Laws: sion/laws/ sion/laws/ State Board of Education appoints a Textbook Commission to decide what books are on the “approved” list. Contracts are made with the publishers of selected textbooks.

Math Textbook Info  Textbook prices: ed/2009-math6-8.pdf ed/2009-math6-8.pdf  5 year Adoption Schedule  Wiki – After you request access, please post your thoughts about the different textbooks. I would like to use this forum for us to communicate in a professional yet relaxed manner about this very important decision!

When evaluating each textbook…  Keep in mind the current NCSCOS, Essential Standards, and HPS Curriculum Maps  Look through ALL of the resources that are provided – a textbook is not just literally the BOOK  Note how each textbook promotes 21 st Century Skills

Homework  At your home school: Complete the matrix for EACH textbook (you may only want to evaluate the grade level that you teach) Total the points and identify the TOP 2 scoring textbooks Return your matrix to the Math Department Chair at your school All matrices need to be returned to Amanda Davidson (NVW) by February 9 th Second Meeting: Tuesday – February 16 th ( NVW Media Center 3:00) to discuss the two highest scoring textbooks and choose one!! me if you have any questions or concerns:
