South Live Oak Elementary

My Background: * I am originally from Central and now reside in Denham Springs. * I have a degree in elementary education from SLU and an add on certification for Kindergarten. * I have a daughter, Ella, who will be in 1 st Grade this year. * I enjoy being creative and love planning fun ways to help children learn. My Experience: * I have been teaching (off/on) for 12 years. * I have taught at a total of 6 different schools throughout the parish & I have experience teaching grades K-5 and all subjects. * This will be my 2 nd year teaching at SLOE.

To greet your child each morning with the expectation that the day will be important and challenging. To prepare exciting and fun lessons that will prepare your child for 3 rd grade. To assign worthwhile homework that can be completed in 15 to 30 minutes each day. To make your child’s day an intellectually stimulating one. To call or write whenever I feel that your child needs a little extra help in getting along with others, growing in responsibility, or working harder, and/or to brag. To love your child unconditionally as I do my own.

The subjects I teach are: Handwriting Math Science Social Studies PE and Art My partner teacher,Mrs. Claire Miller, teaches Reading, Language, & Spelling

*Math is usually a page in the practice book. *Social Living (Science or Social Studies) usually consists of studying or a vocabulary review page. *Homework is due on the day after assigned, unless otherwise stated.

Folders are sent home every Monday. The folder will have the graded papers from two weeks before, not the previous week. This allows for make-up tests. Important notes will be included in the folder. Conduct grade from previous week & cumulative AR points will be on the folder. Please sign & return the folder on Tuesday. ** Your child will also have a Daily Homework/R.O.C.K.E.T Folder *Please check this folder daily for sometimes extra notes and homework items will be in this folder.

*Conduct grades will be on the Take Home folder. The grade is based on the number of marks received the previous week. Verbal warnings are given before a mark is ever written down unless the action is severe.

In 2 nd grade, students start the AR program. They read a book and then take a test on that book. In the beginning, you may want to write a note letting me know they are ready for a test. If it is a book from home, you may want to write down the author & title. They receive points based on the number of correct answers. If they receive 60% or less, then they receive no points. They can only take the test on that book one time. If they attain a certain number of points, then they may attend a party at the end of the 9 weeks. Each class that gets 100% participation, gets a special party. Last year my class achieved this every time. The AR points are not figured into a class grade. In 3 rd grade, AR is mandatory & part of reading grade.

We will be going on two field trips this year. Possible Trips: Tickfaw State Park LASM

We have official parties for Christmas and Easter. You are invited to attend these. We do have small celebrations or sharing of treats on other occasions such as Valentine’s Day and Halloween.
