1 Third Grade at a Glance Welcome to Third Grade!

2 3rd Grade Third Grade is an exciting time at Oasis Charter Elementary.
This is the year that your child will begin his or her journey of independence.  They will develop the study skills needed to be successful throughout their educational career.  They will master multiplication skills and learn many concepts that will be built upon each year. Students focus on reading to “learn” this year.

3 English Language Arts Reading (McGraw-Hill Wonders)
Spelling & Grammar- Daily Dose of Grammar:  Correlated with state standards, this curriculum provides daily practice in grammar and usage.  Additionally, it extends to include instruction in spelling, informational skills, and components to enhance writing skills.  Skills are practiced for 4 days ending with an assessment on day 5.  Writing- Write Bright Grading : Spelling/Grammar, FSA Weekly Test, Classroom Assignments, and Writing AR goals are based on student levels, and are individualized. 4 Mathematics: Standards Based Learning

7 At Home Expectations In the third grade, math facts and reading are both essential to the success of your child. Reading with your child, helps build reading comprehension and fluency.  Although there is no ”homework” sent home daily, your child is encouraged to practice math facts at least 15 minutes and read for 20 minutes each night. You can practice math each night using Khan Academy.

8 3rd grade FSA FSA – Florida Standards Assessment
FSA reading will be paper based FSA math will be paper based It is a state law for 3rd grade students to pass the test with a level 2 or higher in Reading. Back up assessments are STAR reading and Stanford 10. If any additional information or changes are made in regards to FSA we will communicate this information as soon as we receive it.

9 Volunteering If you have not turned in your gold forms, please do so ASAP so you can volunteer and attend school functions during the day Younger siblings are not allowed to attend classroom events, but can attend school wide functions that happen out of the classroom like the fun run and field day. 3rd grade parties: Halloween, Christmas, End of the Year. More details will come as these parties get closer. Parents are welcome to send in treats for other holidays, but we will not have large parties for them.

10 Other News We send home all graded papers in the take home binder every week. Please check and sign your child’s planner every night. Students are responsible for their own snack everyday. Cafeteria expectations: students bring everything they need for lunch (including utensils), they will help clean up. Only 3rd grade eats at our lunch time. Birthdays are celebrated during our lunch time. Please send in a SMALL treat and anything needed to eat it, including napkins. Cleared parents may begin eating lunch with their children starting September 7th, but no volunteer hours will be given. * More information on Administration PowerPoint.
