Google Maps A tutorial on how to use Google Maps

Getting Directions ● Go to maps.google.com ● Click on Get Directions ● There will be a drop down ● Enter your starting location in the A box ● Enter your ending location in the B box ● Zip Codes are not needed ● Click Get Directions

Getting Directions Cont.. ● A map as well as directions will come up ● On left side of screen are directions ● Top Box includes main roads used, mileage, and estimated driving time ● Map of directions is on right side of screen ● At the bottom left of screen is a scale to show distances on map ● At top right of screen there is a scroll tool to scroll the map to see different areas as well as a zoom in, zoom out feature

Getting Directions Traffic Feature ● Click on Traffic at top of Map ● A key will come up on the map indicating traffic. Green is fast. Red is slow. Red with black means very slow ● You will notice Yellow triangles throughout the map that mark road work being done ● Click on the yellow triangle and a pop up will come up that will tell you when the road work is expected to end

Getting Directions Satellite/Earth Feature ● Click on Satellite at top right of Map ● A satellite view of the map will come up ● Click on Earth at top right of Map ● A 3D image of the map will come up ● Use zoom button to zoom in to see 3d image of landmarks. There is a scroll button above it to move around as well as tilt the image

How to create your own Map From Home Page Click on My Maps Click Play to get a quick tutorial on how to use My Maps

My Maps ● After watching video (optional) click get started and sign in ● Choose a Title and mark either public or private ● Use Zoom button on left of screen to zoom into area you wish to create map in ● Click on landmark button and place at starting point. Click on landmark button and title your starting point. In title box click on button to change your landmark picture

My Maps ● Click on third box from the left and choose draw a line along road. You can also simply draw a line. ● Draw a line from your starting point to first destination. ● Click on Place Landmark and place landmark at first destination. Again you can change the icon

My Maps ● You can also mark territories by clicking on line icon and choose draw a shape ● Draw a shape to shade in the area you wish to designate and title your area ● To find destinations in the area. Right click anywhere you wish and choose What's here. A list of destinations will come up on the left of the screen ● Click Save to Save your map
