Presentation transcript:

What is the National Student Survey? The National Student Survey asks final year undergraduate students to provide feedback on their academic experience Your views will be used to help future students choose what and where to study Fully supported by the National Union of Students (NUS) How are the results used? The results will be made available to inform future students in choosing what and where they would like to study. These results are published on the Unistats website at They are also fed back to institutions so that they can improve what they offer.

What is being asked? The questionnaire asks the extent to which you agree with a series of statements about your university experience Topic areas include: Teaching Assessment and feedback Academic support Organisation and management Learning resources Personal development

When and how do I take part? Eligible students will receive an during January or February, with an invitation to complete the survey online Non-respondents to the online survey may be followed up by post and telephone to ensure that as many students as possible have a chance to take part You can also go directly to to complete the survey The survey is straightforward and should take no more than five minutes to complete The individual responses of students are confidential and will not be released to us – we will be given summary data collated by the survey organisers

Why should I take part? The survey will provide the SBCS with the kind of feedback we need to affect changes and improvements to the student experience Surveys, in general, are often biased by a small minority of dissatisfied respondents, since often these are the only people who care enough to reply So, it is especially important that you complete the survey if you are happy with the School, as your comments will strengthen our reputation and help us to enhance the quality of the degrees we offer This is your opportunity to make your opinions heard Last year, over 170,000 final year undergraduate students across the UK made their opinions heard…. Now it’s your chance!

How are the results used? Your comments help us identify any areas we might need to improve and strengthen Results from surveys such as this one are used to compile University league tables, so indicate to potential employers the quality of your institution and degree The results are used to help future students choose where and what to study All responses to the survey are completely anonymous The SBCS would like to thank you in advance for participating in the 2007 National Student Survey

"The National Student Survey gives final year students a unique opportunity to inform future students about the quality of their student experience. It also provides students' unions and institutions with the kind of feedback they need to affect changes and improvement to the student experience. I hope that finalists will take a few minutes to share their experience with the next generation of students.” Wes Streeting, Vice President Education, NUS
