2 2 What is the NSS? Annual survey of final year undergraduates across the UK Commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) on behalf of all the funding bodies Fully supported by your Students’ Union and the National Union of Students (NUS) Conducted by Ipsos MORI Quick and easy to complete

3 3 What will the NSS ask me?www.thestudentsurvey.com The NSS asks a range of questions about your course experience The teaching on my course Assessment & feedback Academic support Organisation & management Learning resources Personal development Overall satisfaction The NSS also asks students about satisfaction with their Students’ Union And here at Bath you can also opt to answer some additional questions which are important to both the University and Students’ Union: Feedback from students Work Placements Assessment Careers Learning Community

4 4 How are the results used?www.thestudentsurvey.com The NSS results are made publicly available (KIS, Unistats) to help prospective students make informed decisions of where and what to study Institutions are provided with the anonymised data to help them identify areas where they are doing well, as well as areas for development, for the purpose of improving the student learning experience for future generations of students

5 5 As a result of what previous students have said, and through working together, we have made a lot of changes including: Increased the number of hours of video lecture capture by 186% recorded in two years, allowing more students to re-view their lectures online Improved bus services include a new 24 hour bus service Launched the Academic Skills Centre and developed a new Writing Centre on the Parade that students can access for skills support Launched the Bath Connection Scheme, enabling graduates to network and engage with successful Bath alumni Enabled 86% of our employed first degree UK graduates to move into top level jobs, compared to only 66% nationally Provided Peer Mentoring opportunities to develop key skills and offered enhanced careers support www.thestudentsurvey.com

6 6 As a result of what previous students have said, and through working together, we have made a lot of changes including: Established the Students’ Union’s Student Learning Associates scheme, enabling students to lead projects that enhance the student experience Enabled students to nominate staff in the University Teaching Awards, which empowers students to recognise those who have made a positive impact on their studies Formative feedback is now available to students on all units that they study Introduced anonymous marking were practical and possible Increased online submission of coursework Ensured that Unit Evaluations and SAMIS are now accessible through students' smart phones www.thestudentsurvey.com

7 7 As a result of what previous students have said, and through working together, we have made a lot of changes including: Delivered brand new, ‘state of the art’ teaching spaces such as the Chancellors’ Building and refurbished GTA space, University Hall and 1West Launched the Students’ Union Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) scheme to facilitate group study sessions led by students, for the benefit of students Developed the Placement Handbook to ensure that students are supported during their time away from campus Delivered The Edge, the new home for the ICIA and the creative arts. Refurbished Swimming pool in the STV Established the Lime Tree restaurant, providing students with more places to eat and socialise on campus www.thestudentsurvey.com
