Ecosystems

Unit Standards 5.L.4A.1 Analyze and interpret data to summarize the abiotic factors (including quantity of light and water, range of temperature, salinity, and soil composition) of different terrestrial ecosystems and aquatic ecosystems. 5.L.4A.2 Obtain and communicate information to describe and compare the biotic factors (including individual organisms, populations, and communities) of different terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? Coral reefs can be found in warm, shallow water.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? They are often in tropical areas. The water in these ecosystems usually stays between 70 degrees F and 85 degrees F year-round.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? This temperature range allows many fish and eels to live there.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? Coral reefs are formed from organisms that are no longer living.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? Coral polyps are tiny animals that live in large groups. When they die they leave behind hard skeletons that form coral reefs.

What is a Coral-reef ecosystem? The reefs are home to many ocean animals. Although coral polyps were once living, coral is an abiotic factor in the reef ecosystem.
