How do we affect nature? Ecological footprints measure humanities demand on nature. Everything that we do has consequences…

Ecological Footprint is the amount of land and water required to sustain our consumption patterns and absorb our wastes on an annual basis. Ecological Footprint

Sustainability utilizing natural resources without destroying the ecological balance of an area.

Lower ecological footprint means less strain to the environment, that means less pollution and destruction.

How can you lessen your Ecological Footprint and achieve a sustainable development? Reuse means use materials repeatedly. Move away from disposables! Recycle means using used materials to create new products. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future

In 2007, our population has exceeded what our planet can provide. We need another ½ earth in order to survive normally. In 2050, we will need almost 2 more Earths to survive. Or survive, if we attain sustainability. Is it possible? # of Earth Years

Greatest waste produced! Every American needs 7.19 global hectares (gha) to sustains their needs and wants. That means every American needs 3.20 football fields to sustain their needs and wants football fields =1 hectares 1 football field is 1.1 acres

2. How can you lessen your ecological footprint?

Carbon footprint – lessen use of fossil fuel, plant trees. Recycle! Cropland footprint- do not waste food. Grazing footprint- do not waste food. Fishing footprint- do not waste food. Built on land footprint- population control, recycle, reduce, reuse. Forest footprint- do not waste papers and other materials from the forest. How to lessen our ecological footprint! By reusing, reducing and recycling.

6. Why should we be afraid of global warming? Global warming leads to the melting of polar ice caps, climate change, flooding, drought, etc.

9. Why is recycling so important to attain sustainability? Recycling lessens consumption which means less stress to our environment. Recycling lessens waste and pollution in the environment. Recycling lessens the need for more sanitary landfills.
