E-Rate The Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund

Purpose Service provider – Makes discounts available – Ensures that schools and libraries have access – Reimburses for services

Four Service Categories Telecommunications Services Internet Access Internal Connections Other Than Basic Maintenance Basic Maintenance of Internal Connections

Discounts 20% - 90% Depends on population it serves & based on: – Level of poverty – Urban/rural status

Who Can Receive Services Eligible – Schools – School districts – libraries

Process to Receive E-rate Discounts Prepare a Technology Plan Form 470 Open the Competitive Process Form 471 Seek Discounts on Eligible Services Form 486 Confirm the Receipt of Services Forms 472 and 474 Invoicing for Services

Summary By participating in the E-Rate program, districts are providing more economical ways for schools and libraries to improve technology achievement of Students Teachers
