CCISD TECHNOLOGY PLAN by Patti Shields Cohort 10 EDLD 5362 Information Systems Management

Vision Plan  Implement a computer network capable of supporting outside devices  Expand and market e4  Increase unified communications  Implement a safe network for improved collaboration 24/7 any time and any where http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

..

Teaching and Learning  Improve student learning and achievement through the integration of technology into instruction across the curriculum.  Increased student access to 24/7 learning.  Increased collaboration between the Department of Instruction and the Department of Technology.  Improve academic achievement across the curriculum through technology and library services http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

Educator Preparation and Development  Work with the Department of Instruction to provide district-wide professional development to ensure efficient and effective use of technologies.  Expand professional development opportunities through the use of distance and distributed learning technologies.  Provide professional development that is collaborative, interactive and differentiated. http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support  To support district-wide strategic planning initiatives by providing technology solutions to ensure efficient and effective management of resources, improved processes, and community collaboration.  Promote a shared vision that ensures all planning is collaborative and technology-rich.  Communicate shared vision using a variety of media to interact and collaborate.  Improve processes to promote the efficient and effective management of district resources. http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

Infrastructure for Technology  Support integration of technology into instruction by providing and maintaining network connectivity, hardware and software.  Provide the infrastructure to allow Clear Creek ISD to attain district goals.  Develop the infrastructure to prepare for and address emerging technologies and future needs. http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

Making Connections http://www2.ccisd.net/Libraries/Technology/Technology_LongRangePlan.sflb.ashx

Texas Long Range Plan  The Texas Long Range Plan was designed so that technology applications TEKS can be integrated into the curriculum.  Allow teacher professional development to teach and integrate technology into the classrooms.  Involve Leadership, Administrators and Instructional support for technology planning.  Design an Infrastructure for technology and telecommunications that provide access to digital content.

National Education Technology Plan  The National Education Technology Plan has been designed to assist States and districts with integrating technology into education so that our students can be globally competitive.  The nation must take responsibility in making sure that our students are adequately prepared for future challenges involving technology for success.

Action Steps  Strengthen Leadership  Consider Innovative Budgeting  Improve Teacher Training  Support E-Learning and Virtual Schools  Encourage Broadband Access  Move Toward Digital Content  Integrate Data Systems http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/os/technology/plan/2004/site/edlite-default.html

Items to Consider WWith the investments in technology for our students to be successful we must make sure that it is engaging and that there are opportunities to challenge and stimulate their learning. WWe must be mindful that our students safety is priority while using technology. We must invest in filtering systems to protect them. WWe must provide collaborative learning enviroments. WWe must provide opportunities for Game-Based learning, and include the use of mobile devices which many of our students already have.

Continued  We should use Student Response Systems (SRS) to provide them with immediate feedback.  We must make sure that the technology and our classrooms are sustainable. Sustainable solutions will stand the test of time. In five to seven years (or more), they will still be doing what they were meant to do at the time of their original implementation (Tschirigi, D., nd).  The technology should be visible and interactive.  Wi-Fi connection is a must.

Conclusion  Technology is responsible for distorting the concept of distance between learner and instructor, and enabling learners to access education at any time and from any place (Beldarrain, Y. 2006).  When implementing technology take into consideration the value it has now and its sustainability. Collaborate with stakeholders and others before investing in technology to make sure it is going to do what you need it to do.  The integration of technology into our schools has the ability to transform the learning process and student engagement by improving interest, inquiry, analysis, collaboration, creativity and content production.  We still have a long way to go but it is evident that we are headed in the right direction to equip our 21 st century learners with a technology enriched education which will keep them globally competitive.
