What is a Bursa? A bursa is a soft, fluid-filled closed sac lined with a synovial-like membrane that sometimes contains fluid that develops in the area.
History. Observation. Palpation. Special Test. History (10 questions) 1. What happened? 2. How did it happen? Think specifics! 3. When did it happen?

Presentation transcript:

Ultrasound Case: Cuboidal Bursitis Diagnosis: Cuboidal Bursitis. History: None Findings: Patient w/elbow pain and palpable mass over the anterior aspect of the elbow. Fluid and soft tissue are present along the deep surface of the biceps tendon (arrows). The biceps tendon (t, arrow heads) is intact. BR=brachialis muscle, BM=biceps muscle, T=trochlea. Treatment: US guided aspiration and injection. Slide 1 of 3

Ultrasound Case: Cuboidal Bursitis Diagnosis: Cuboidal Bursitis. History: None Findings: Patient w/elbow pain and palpable mass over the anterior aspect of the elbow. Below the biceps tendon (t), there is a fluid collection corresponding to a bicipitoradial bursitis (arrows). BR=brachialis, a=brachial artery. Treatment: US guided aspiration and injection. Slide 2 of 3

Ultrasound Case: Cuboidal Bursitis Diagnosis: Cuboidal Bursitis. History: None Findings: Ultrasound guided aspiration and injection: On the left, a needle (n) is placed below the tendon (t) within the bursa. The close proximity of the brachial artery (a) to the bursa is evident. On the right, injection of corticosteroid/anesthetic mixture is performed in real-time, showing mild distension of the bursa with the therapeutic mixture. Treatment: US guided aspiration and injection. Slide 3 of 3
