MUSCULAR SYSTEM DISORDERS OF ASSOCIATED STRUCTURES SLO 5

Disorders Bursitis – inflammation of a bursa, a fluid- filled sac that minimizes friction between tissues and bone.

Bursitis of the Knee

Bursitis can be very painful, with swelling and limitation of motion Treatment can include local anesthetic, corticosteroids or both may be injected to relieve bursitis pain.

Bunions – enlargements commonly found at the base and medial side of the great toe. Usually from prolonged pressure that has caused the development of a bursa, which then becomes inflamed.

Treatment for bunions can include special shoes, padding or surgery.

Tendonitis – an inflammation of muscle tendons and their attachments, occurs most often in athletes who overexert themselves Frequently involves the shoulder, hamstring muscle tendons at the knee and the Achilles tendon near the heel

Tendonitis

Plantar Fasciitis – tendonitis that involves the thick band of connective tissue on the bottom of the foot. Inflammation causes heel and foot pain

Shinsplints – pain and soreness along the tibia “shin bone” from stress injury or structures in the leg Causes can include tendonitis at the insertion of the tibialis anterior muscle or even a stress fracture of the tibia itself Often occurs with runners who run on hard surfaces without proper shoe support.

Shin Splints

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – involves the tendons of the flexor muscles of the fingers as well as the nerves supplying the hand and fingers. One of the most common repetitive-use disorders that affects many workers who use their hands and fingers strenuously – factory workers, keyboard operators and musicians

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
