29 Diploma Assessments When determining which rule students are under for graduation, find when they were first enrolled in 8 th grade –Students who were first enrolled in 8th grade in 2005–2006 or later must meet the requirements of the GRAD in reading, mathematics and writing in order to receive a diploma from a Minnesota public high school –Students who were first enrolled in 8 th grade before 2005–06 must pass the BST assessments in order to receive a diploma from a Minnesota public school Minnesota Assessment Conference

30 BST 2010–2011 retest opportunities for Reading and Mathematics: November and April BST retests will be offered through April 2012 Minnesota Assessment Conference

31 Writing GRAD Test of Written Composition –Grade 9 testing in April (first administration) and senior retest opportunity –Retest opportunities for grades students in November and July –Must receive a score of 3 or higher to pass Alternate Assessment for Writing –Given to Special Education students –Available on Special Education section of MDE Website –Results entered online during MTAS window Minnesota Assessment Conference

32 GRAD Reading and Mathematics Online retests Optional monthly testing windows –First Tuesday to the Wednesday of the following week Students eligible to test every 8 weeks Minnesota Assessment Conference

33 Reading GRAD Embedded in the grade 10 Reading MCA for the first administration –Achieve proficiency on MCA (scale score of 1050 or higher) or –Achieve a scale score of 50 or higher on the GRAD component Other routes to meeting GRAD requirements in reading: –Proficiency on Reading MTAS –Proficiency on Reading MCA-Modified –Individual passing score set by IEP or 504 team Minnesota Assessment Conference

34 Mathematics GRAD Embedded in the grade 11 Mathematics MCA for the first administration –Achieve proficiency on MCA (scale score of 1150 or higher) or –Achieve a scale score of 50 or higher on the GRAD component Students who do not pass the Mathematics GRAD are eligible to receive a high school diploma if they: –Complete with a passing grade all state and local coursework and credits required for graduation by the school board granting the students their diploma, –Participate in the assessment until they pass the Mathematics GRAD or take at least two GRAD retests, whichever comes first, and –Participate in district-prescribed academic remediation in mathematics.
