Q2: How does your media product represent particular social groups? For our opening title sequence the main character is a female. She is 22 years old and lives in England. She is a middle class women, and has a job as an accountant. Everything in her life is so normal and she seems like your everyday type of women. The untypical part of our film is that the main character is a female protagonist and that is unusual in thriller movies now and goes against the average thriller conventions of a film. Kill Bill is an action thriller movie with a female protagonist. Quentin Tarantino wanted to go against classical thriller action movies. This is the female character in our film and she is very different from Kill Bill but we still used a female protagonist.

We tried to represent certain groups in certain ways by portraying them in a stereotypical way. For example in our film we decided to say that the gang that killed the women's father all had the same tattoo, just like some stereotypical gangs do. We also portrayed our female as a proactive and self assured women, which is a major difference from the typical ‘helpless’ female in most thriller movies. The props we use in our opening title sequence show the type of female character we are trying to portray. All the research she does from going on the computer to getting fingerprints and other pictures, this shows that she is a proactive and intelligent women. We also show a picture of her with her father and hopefully it comes across as if she wants to find his killers as revenge.

Our main character influences came from a film called Fargo. This is because it also uses a female protagonist, who is calm and investigates crimes. We could easily relate that character with the one in our film, and that is why it became an influence. The main character starts out as a nice, intelligent and self assured women but as the movie progresses she ends up killing her fiancé which is a big transition from the start of the movie. Fargo was screened at film festivals as a way of promoting the film. This is a way we wanted to promote our independent film because I think it gives the film exposure to our target audience.
