EMILY NEWELL OUTLINE TREATMENT

SYNOPSIS Myles, our male protagonist, is unknowingly the last survivor of a fatal infection which has contaminated the whole world. He then meets Jaz, who is going through the transitions of the infection process. He’s running out of time to find out the cause and the cure in order to save Jaz before she transforms.

3 ACT TREATMENT 1.Equilibrium: normal everyday life, no signs of any infection, the main characters go to college, the characters walk passed each other with no recognition to each other 2.Disequilibrium: infection spreads throughout the world, the main characters meet due to the commotion, this is when Myles starts to try and find a cure in order to save the human race but more importantly Jazmin 3.New Equilibrium: Myles finds the cure to the infection and saves Jazmin and the remaining survivors, who then go on to rebuild civilisation

MISE EN SCENE Costumes: Myles: our protagonist is going to wear typical teenage boy clothes; jeans and plain t-shirt which is make it more relatable to our target audience (+15) Jazmin: our helper and love interest; she is going to be wearing typical teenage girl clothing, since she is going through the transitions of the disease she is going to have certain things different about her clothing making her seem more rugged and that she’s gone through a lot. As a sign that she is going through the transition she will have a red line under her eyes meaning she is partially infected. Props: Car; heavily focused on in the beginning of the trailer to hide part of the protagonist identity Computer; key to Myles finding the cure

LOCATION A big disserted house to emphasise the isolation of the character Empty streets to imply that everyone is infected apart from him Unconscious people laying around to show the transition Everyday clothing – to show unusual things happening in a normal setting and to make it relatable to our target audience who are teenagers

REECE These are two of the locations where we plan to shoot. The top is a road and driveway is a quiet place in Brighton, this location is where our protagonist is going to live. This is where our female character is going to be hiding after she has been going through the transition and where Myles is going to find her. This second location is a deserted field, this is where we are planning to film some shots to show how the world is no longer the same, and no one is around. Myles being the only survivor with the possibility that he can save Jaz.

JOB ROLES We have assigned each person in our group job roles: Cameraman: Emily Director: Taylor Editor/cameraman assistant: Chloe

INFLUENCES What we took from these films is having a male protagonist who is an alienated hero and the idea of the infection. We also took the idea of a love interest from “28 Days Later” who will help the character and also drive the narrative. We also took the idea of the infected people being the main threat to our protagonist from “I Am Legend.” We are going to take the idea of flickering, broken titles from “The Book of Eli” this will create the impression of the world broken from the infection.

MARKETING Posters/magazine articles Viral Marketing; creating ‘flash mobs’ of the infected in real life situations like the trains stations and filming it, then uploading to youtube to be seen worldwide Social networking; as our target audience is 15+ social networking is a useful way to spread the word of the film Cinematic, television and Radio trailers and short clips (leaking) of the film on imdb Leakage: early trailers Private showing/film festivals Setting up dystopic areas within the cinema where the audience can be interactive (simulator) similar to the film ‘Monsters’

SUMMARY “bad bringing out the good…” This is our slogan because in our film even though the infection is seen as a world wide disaster, some good has still come out of it with the underlying love twist. Our unique selling point is how there are no obvious signs of infection and you can only establish that someone is infected through being in face to face contact, in which a red line is visible under their eye.
