1 Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the forms and conventions of real media products? The genre of our film is psychological/crime. We got the inspiration of our movie from Se7en because it uses the same generic thriller conventions as ours. For example that film is also a psychological/crime and in the opening title sequence of Se7en, research looks like it is also being done with the same kind of eerie music. But we did challenge the conventions of the thriller genre by using a female protagonist. This is quite unusual in most thriller movies because they normally play the ‘helpless’ female role. Another inspiration we took was thriller films that have a female protagonist.

3 In the 1 st frame it shows our title. We choose a certain font, that helped contribute to the thriller effect. Our title does not really challenge the average thriller conventions, because it is quite a typical thriller title and font. Our title is Due retribution which means due revenge/vengeance which is a typical thriller title. Our title appears at the end of the opening title sequence to give dramatic effect. The 2 nd frame shows the setting we used to film our opening title sequence. We tried to portray the women's bedroom in our opening title sequence. We tried to make it look quite messy, because we were trying to show that the women was not in a good state of mind. The broken light bulb shows disconnection, which we were trying to relate to the women’s thoughts. The 3 rd frame shows the props we used to show the women’s research. We tried to make it look like she had been using the computer and other images like fingerprints, these fingerprints come from past killers that are now in jail. Hopefully the props come across as if the women has been doing a lot of research. Frame 4 shows the unique part of our film, which is that our main character is female. We tried to portray her as an self assured, intelligent women when she is researching. But at the end of the film she ends up killing her Fiancé, which is a change in her normal personality throughout the movie. The 5 th frame shows an establishing shot of the women’s window. We also used it to show what time of night it is at the time. An establishing shot is an extremely important shot because it sets the tone for the rest of the film.

4 The 6 th frame shows the ring on the women’s finger which is indicating that she is engaged. It gives an enigma to the audience of who her fiancé actually is. It shows that the women is safe and secure and happy, but actually she is up all night trying to find who killed her father. Frame 7 represents the time that the girl is up doing the research at, it is meant to make it seem like the women is almost addicted to researching about her father’s death. The clock also contributes to the sound effect in our opening title sequence, with constant ticking. This also adds to the anticipation of our opening title sequence. The 8 th frame shows what we did with our title at the end of our movie, we started with due retribution then it faded out to saying Due. We did this because we wanted to put emphasis on the word due and how much it influences our movie. Frame 9 shows the scene we were trying to set. We wanted to show the women’s bedroom and what it would of looked like. We tried to create an atmosphere that the women does not want to sleep but wants to stay awake researching. We also wanted the audience to perceive the woman as a normal woman living in a normal house.
