Teacher Leadership Certification (TLC) Program Overview The Teacher Leadership Certification Program is a LAUSD/University cohort- based instructional leadership program designed to support aspiring teacher leaders in: Understanding Adults as Learners to Support Professional Learning Communities Accessing and Using Research to Improve Practice and Student Achievement Promoting Professional Learning or Continuous Improvement Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student Learning Using Assessments and Data for School and District Improvement Improving Outreach and Collaboration with Families and Community Advocating for Student Learning and the Profession Draft Model Teacher Leader Standards: Developed by the Teacher Leadership Exploratory Consortium

TLC Program Components Job-embedded university coursework and field work Extended learning assignments related to classroom instruction, mentoring, and leadership Individualized mentor support Four electronic portfolio leadership presentations An expectation of a commitment to teach for LAUSD for a minimum of three years upon completion of the program

Who is eligible to apply? The TLC program is being piloted district wide with Lead New Teacher Support providers.

Required Qualifications Include: Commitment to personal professional growth and learning Reflective about personal teaching practice Evidence of excellence in teaching Ability to guide teachers through demonstrations, observations, and consultations to promote instructional excellence Ability to analyze and discuss student achievement data and provide instructional support and guidance Effective interpersonal skills Willingness to support beginning teachers at schools in close proximity to home school based on need

The TLC Application and Selection Process Submission of written application, letter of intent, resume, and principal acknowledgement form Letter of recommendation from a current or former mentee Letter of recommendation from UTLA Chapter Chair or grade level or department chairperson Successful completion of the TLC Pre-Service Assessment A Simulated Mentor Support Exercise Interview Classroom observation
