2 What is the LEAD Program? LEAD is a comprehensive one year leadership development internship program designed to identify, assess and develop future leaders. The primary focus of LEAD is to develop aspiring assistant principals that are equipped to cultivate and maintain in school processes and conditions that include rigorous academic standards, high-quality instruction, and a culture of collective responsibility for all students’ academic success. LEAD is a comprehensive one year leadership development internship program designed to identify, assess and develop future leaders. 3 Who Should Apply? Teachers, Instructional coaches, deans, counselors, coordinators, and others with at least one year out-of- the classroom experience, who have met the requirements for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (Tier I) and want to become an assistant principal.

4 How Does This Differ from the Traditional Administrative Pathway? LEAD provides a one year structured leadership development program that includes assessment, mentorship, individual learning plans, reflection, and on-going feedback while engaging in the day-to-day duties of an administrator. 86% of the seven cohorts of LEAD graduates are currently in administrative positions with 8 serving as new principals. 5 What are the Instructional Components of the LEAD Program? The program consists of three researched-based program features: A One Week Summer Boot Camp designed to: –assess the leadership skills of the participants using an assessment center type model –assist interns in becoming reflective of their leadership practice –begin an individual leadership development plan –provide mandated Child Abuse, Ethics, and Sexual Abuse certification training A One Year Guided Internship with a high performing mentor principal. On-Going Project-based Professional development sessions based on the current work at the school. 8 Key Points to Know About the LEAD Cohort 8 Program: The LEAD program no longer includes a paid internship. Participants will remain at their current school site where they will carry out the LEAD assignments along with their regular responsibilities while being mentored by their current principal.The LEAD program no longer includes a paid internship.
