A Community Led Plan for Bishopstone? Belinda Fowler Community Development Officer Reg. Charity No: Co. Ltd by Guarantee Reg. No: VAT Reg No: Registered with FSA No: FRN Supported by: Defra

What is Community Led Planning? A plan or strategy for the Parish – for the future of your community Community led Reflects the views of ALL sections of the community through effective community consultation Community Led Plan

Why have a Community Led Plan? What can CLP offer us as a community? Don’t existing plans and strategies do the job?

Benefits for YOUR community Provide evidence for what’s needed now……but also plan for the future Have a greater say Influence development issues Manage change Provide evidence for funding bids Help community spirit

What have Community Led Plans achieved? Plans ‘helping deliver what residents want’ Plans supporting funding bids New community halls, youth shelters etc. Helping progress on specific issues e.g. planning New people involved in community activity

What issues can CLP tackle? Anything of interest and concern to local people

What issues can CLP tackle?  built environment  housing/development  heritage  community buildings  landscape  wildlife habitats  traffic  public transport  local economy  employment  health/care  retail services  sport /recreation  tourism  crime  recycling  education  young/old  communications  climate change

Some of the CLP tools available Neighbourhood Plans Focus = on land use planning choose where you want new homes, shops and offices to be built have your say on what those new buildings should look like grant planning permission for the new buildings you want to see go ahead. About “positive” planning not control Statutory plans

Some of the CLP tools available Parish or Town Plans A plan or strategy for your community Cover ALL issues of concern to local residents Non-statutory Influencing/evidencing documents 22% Wiltshire towns/parishes have one

Some of the CLP tools available Village Design Statements Focus = on design of development About how development should be undertaken to respect local character and identity Can be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document

Key considerations 1. Where are we now? Current issues/concerns/strengths/weaknesses 2. What do we want our community to look like in the future? Opportunities for change? 3.How do we get there? Is CLP for us? If yes, what is the best tool for us to use?

Any questions?

Group discussions Please help us to identify: Q1.Current local issues/concerns Q2. Opportunities for change/improvement Record ideas on flip chart paper Agree the 3 priority issues/opportunities from your list
