1 Greater Nottingham Aligned Core Strategies Option for Consultation (15 th February until 12 th April 2010) Karen Shaw Nottingham City Council

2 Core Strategy Sets out statutory planning policies to 2026 (replace existing Local Plan) Conurbation wide process (Housing Market Area) to ensure consistency Seeks to Balance land allocations between: Housing Open space Employment Sits under: Regional Spatial Strategy (Govt) ‘Sustainable Community Strategy‘ (City Wide)

3 What you told us last summer There was a need to plan effectively for the predicted rise in the number of households, especially in the City because of continuing success of the employment strategy – further work underway in relation to employment land across the conurbation to update previous study. There was a need to consider the relationship between housing and employment and to ensure the timely delivery of community infrastructure - work about to commence on infrastructure delivery and viability to supplement earlier work on infrastructure capacity. All new buildings need to be built to very high environmental standards – Policy 1 on Climate Change requires faster progress towards meeting national targets on sustainable construction and energy sourcing. There was concern about the option involving increased housing at Arnold as this could potentially increase levels of congestion along radial routes into the city- improvements in public transport will be key to ensuring that new strategic sites can be delivered sustainably. There was a call for an improved orbital bus service and policies to help protect and enhance Sherwood District Centre – Policy 6 on the Role of Town and Local Centres sets out a ‘retail hierarchy’ to protect city, town district and local centres.
