Titles and Quotation Marks

RULE ONE Titles of big things appear in italics or underlined. -Books -Movies -Newspapers -TV Shows -Plays

RULE TWO Titles of short things appear in quotation marks. -Short Stories -Articles -Poems -Songs

RULE THREE When you write about a title, commas and periods go inside the quotation marks. Exclamation points and question marks do not. -Critics love Frost’s poem, “Birches.” -Have you read Frost’s poem, “Birches”?

RULE FOUR Quotes within quotes become apostrophes. -”Bob looked at Gary and said, ‘I am Bob,’” said Fred. -”Mom said, ‘Yeeha,’” said Dad.
